Edward L Burman explains the governor will advise on plans for membership expansion and Rotary service programs during the visit and a district conference in Toronto is set for March 17 18 and 16 1964 at the Royal York Hotel.

Cactus Flower Blooms After 36 Years At Home
Mrs. L. W. Daan of 15 William Street found a cactus plant bought in 1629 finally flower after decades. The maroon bloom with white stripes and feathery star-like center surprised her, marking its first flowering for the plant.
Recover Stolen Car Second Still Missing
One of two cars stolen in Georgetown last week has been recovered. A vehicle owned by Alph Purvis was found abandoned near town after being taken from the French 130 Legion parking lot on Thursday October 7. A second car owner Lewis K E Freeman remains missing with his vehicle, taken from a downtown parking lot Monday afternoon.

John Alderson 19 Dies in Auto Accident Near Everett
Georgetown youth John Harry Alderson died Saturday when his car failed to negotiate a curve on 28 aideroid near Everett. Passenger Sandra Duncan suffered minor injuries. John had lived with his aunt and uncle in Normandy Blvd and worked for Canadian Baker Perkins Ltd in Brampton. He leaves eight siblings, several town residents as extended family, and cousins Bryan and Barry Lewis who served as pallbearers. Funeral held Tuesday at Thomas Funeral Home in Alliston.

Georgetown All Star Hockey Auxiliary Seeks New Members
Members of the Georgetown All Star Support Group Auxiliary are launching a recruiting drive ahead of the 1965-64 hockey season. At the October 4 meeting they decided to recruit more members or face a heavy season. the women raise funds to aid all Ave teams from Novice to Juvenile and meet on the second Monday, with Thanksgiving shifting the schedule.

Six Families Ousted by Friday Downtown Blaze
A downtown fire on Main Street forced six families from their flats and damaged the Cor daro building. Georgetown police and fire teams battled smoke and flames with two firefighters entering the top floor to check for occupants. Red Cross aided nine homeless residents and the disaster committee arranged clothing and hotel shelter until Tuesday. Estimated damage ranges around 8,000 to 10,000 dollars with delays for a full assessment.

Merchants oppose moving Georgetown municipal offices downtown
A group of 20 businessmen protested at the council meeting against relocating Georgetown’s municipal offices from the downtown site. An 18,200 square foot addition to Interehoom Pressure Ltd. on Armstrong Ave is due for completion in early December as the first phase of a larger expansion. McNally Construction Ltd. builds a concrete floor with drains and pipes to support a new building extension. The Georgetown Industrial Commission led by Chairman Roy Wilson advised on plans. Pressure Division, the parent company in St. Louis, has already broken ground on a 100,000 square foot expansion there, marking a major growth in its industrial sealants business with plants across the United States.

Rabid Glen Dog Leads to Public Health Action
A rabid dog in the Glen Williams area died last week and was confirmed rabid after Ottawa testing. Two local residents who had contact with the dog began antirabies shots. At a Georgetown Public School Board meeting trustees urged principals to report any dogs on or near grounds to dog control to protect children at recess.
