The Countess of Strathmore Chapter Daughters of the Empire held its regular monthly meeting. Two new members joined. a $5 donation to refugee work was approved. Plans for a Salvage Campaign were discussed and reports on the L.O.C.E. booth and Japan’s Ambitions in the East were presented. The Imperial Order banner drive funded a bomber, with $50,000 sent to Lord Beaverbrook. meeting closed with the National Anthem.

Emma A Farrand Buried in Georgetown Cemetery
Miss Emma A Farrand former Georgetown resident was buried in Greenwood Cemetery last Wednesday afternoon October 2. She moved from Norval to Georgetown many years ago with her parents who are now deceased. She later lived with her brother Charles in New Brunswick before returning to St John New Brunswick where she died September 29. Rev Thompson officiated the service and a niece Miss Brink from Vancouver attended with former local friends.

Barn Fire Destroys Cheltenham Farm Structure
A barn on W. H. Henry’s Cheltenham farm burned last Wednesday night, discovered about nine. Fire destroyed grain and hay and part of the livestock, calves pigs and chickens, with damage covered by insurance. Origin of the blaze unknown. a bucket brigade saved the house after over two hours of effort.
