Students at the field day earned praise for top performances in events like pole vault and shot put. Senior Girls Kathleen Thompson and Ingeborg Hauptmann led a tight contest, while Bill Arnold and Don Hutchinson captured senior and intermediate titles respectively. A large afterglow celebration followed with a Weiner Roast and dancing before a late night wrap.
Deputy District Governor Bert Lewis of Ancaster visited Georgetown Libna Club for a Tuesday evening dinner meeting at McGibbon House. Georgetown faces planned hydro savings as local industries join a two week shutdown schedule to cut power use. Arthur C Ranney, a prominent Georgetown figure, is buried after dying in Niagara Falls. The Hydro Commission warns the two thirds of normal consumption quota must be kept and will pull switches if exceeded.
The Georgetown Monarchs girls' softball club sponsored a well attended Rose Room dance last Wednesday. The Debonnaires provided music and the hall was decorated by Mr. Avery. Door prizes went to Kay Stockley and Jim My Golden. Mr. and Mrs. James Print of Brampton won the lucky spot dance.
Beginning October 25 a free mass chest x ray survey will run 4 to 5 days in Halton County with at least two centres per township. Last year 12 560 people were x rayed finding 29 tuberculosis cases. The program is a joint effort of Halton Christmas Seal Committee Ontario Tuberculosis Association and Ontario Department of Health with Federation of Agriculture this year. Meetings to organize the campaign will be announced soon and community contributions support the effort. Also announced is the engagement of Helen Jean Sanderson to Arthur Stamp with the wedding set for October 16 at Elora United Church.

Legion dance at Legion Hall with Joe Marchment’s orchestra last Friday. Mr and Mrs Gordon Fricker relocate to Guelph for Gordon’s job at Silverwoods Dairies. Huttonville Park Sunday sing-songs end for season. Dr F R Watson moves office from Main Street above Bell to Edith Street home. Albert Simson plans a photography studio upstairs in the Diggins Building on Main. Sybil Bennett KC spoke at Progressive Conservative national convention in Ottawa. Georgetown Recreations Council plans second annual Halton Track and Field Meet at Georgetown Park on Saturday October 16.
