Claude Picket of Georgetown exhibited the grand champion Holstein at the Royal Winter Fair. He earned first prize with his aged cow Barivuc Pabst Lang, marking a top honor for his herd.
The late Mr. Gibbons, a barber by trade and lifelong public servant, led Georgetown from 1917 legend to his eighteenth mayoral term. Born in Eramoga and raised in Acton, he entered municipal politics in 1931, served multiple stints as councillor, and retired only after a long act of public service.
Acting mayor Wal F. Hunter recalled Georgetown being the first Canadian town to inaugurate a Volunteer service as residents discussed the program's incoming and outgoing flow.
Georgetown Intermediates and Acton Raiders split a tense interleague matchup as Durham Huskies, league champions, rallied to an 8 8 draw after late arrivals.
