The Tenth Line in Esquesing undergoes a marked upgrade to reduce grade and remove a detour. Contractor W. W. Wyse from Hamilton leads the gravel extraction using a drag-line system to feed a bin and conveyor, with three 4-yard trucks and a small crew to upgrade the route.
The St John’s A Y P A met in the Orange Hall Friday. Mr Boyd led prayer and devotional, Gilbert English read, and a quiz on AY P A knowledge followed. The session began with hymn Safe in the Arms of Jesus and closed with the National Anthem.
The Women’s Missionary Society of the United Church held a Tuesday evening autumn thank offering in the church. Miss Christine Ber spoke on life in India and Central India work, supported by the WMS. Miss Veria Cassidy of Toronto played violin solos and the choir gave a fine performance. A Life Membersh ip presentation and a social hour followed a luncheon. Locals, visitors, and relatives were noted, with greetings for Annie Shortill and attendance at funerals of Mrs Thompson and Mr Anthony.
The Ashgrove W L meeting met in the church basement on Tuesday afternoon November 18 with strong attendance. President Mrs Frank Ruddell chaired and introduced Miss Byrne Sanders editor of Chatelaine who spoke on publishing a magazine edition. Norval Institute was invited to join and performed a fine program of vocal solos piano pieces and readings.
Ward has been received of George W. Shook, a well-known resident of Chinguacousy. He was a son of the late John Henry Shook, pioneer settler of Alextee Teee Shook, second Line west, Chinguacousy, and survived by three sisters, Mrs. Rose Crawforth of Lockport New York, Mrs. Harrete ean Allea, and Miss Mary Shr of Chinguacousy.
Mrs Ellen Nixon of Esquesing Township died at the home of her son in law County Crown Attorney J M Kearns after a long illness. She was 81 and a former resident of Aberfoyle Teeswater Arthur and Guelph. Surviving daughters are Mrs Thomas Woods West Garafraxa and J M Kearns of this city. Interment was in Teeswater United Church area.
A city hire on a frosty morning tried to harness a mule but wrestled a bull by mistake. The farmer called out as the man admitted he could not get the collar over the mule’s head because the ears were frozen.
