Georgetown youths Allen Walker John Doherty Ronald Payne and Mike Finnigan helped thwart a Brampton robbery at Peoples Credit Fuels Sunday evening. They saw a man jump the counter and alerted police. Investigators said a window was forced and a safe hole was blown. The suspects fled in a car parked at the CNR station leaving tools behind.

Heart Attack Fatal For Colin MacNeale
Colin MacNeale age 60 and a ten year Smith and Stone employee died at his home 30 Ontario St after a heart attack. A native of Scotland he came to Winnipeg as a child and later served in HMCS Midland during the war. He resided in Kapuskasing when he joined the navy and after the war moved to Georgetown working in the bake lite department at Smith and Stone on King Street. Surviving are wife Nellie Blodgett and three children Marjorie Cowton Brampton Ian and Lynn. Funeral held at Harold C McClure with interment at Greenwood Cemetery. pallbearers were Charles Day Rocco Lorusso Robert Muir Jack Kerr Herb Harlow and Ted Rogers Sr. A Legion service was held the evening prior by Branch 120.

Police Chief Loses Granddaughter in Tragic Infant Death
Valeris Joan Plater, five months old, died in her Collingwood home after a bad cold. Her parents Andrew and a unnamed mother found her dead in the crib early Friday morning after trying to keep her comfortable. She leaves her parents and two sisters, Andra and a second child. The Haley family attended the funeral in Collingwood on Sunday.
