Halton records Seventh Victory Loan over objective in region

The Halton County district surpasses its Seventh Victory Loan target with 3 006 800 invested, 147 percent of the 2 350 000 objective. Georgetown District leads with 563 500 and a Halton plaque will be presented next Wednesday night at 8 in the Municipal Building. Oakville Milton and district also over subscribed, showing countywide strong support.

Charles Icam of Terra Cotta Dies at 87 in Canada

Terra Cotta’s oldest resident Charles Icam died last Sunday morning in his 88th year after a stroke at home. Born in England, he came to Canada at 14, lived in Terra Cotta and Georgetown, married Kate Bowler in England, and settled in Terra Cotta in 1003. Survived by his wife, five children Norman Leslie Edna Elsie Georgina, six grandchildren, and one great grandchild. Funeral from his residence with Rev J L Self. interment Glen Williams Cemetery. Pallbearers listed.

Knox Presbyterian Bazaar by Verdun Rebekah Lodge a Success

The Knox Presbyterian Church basement bazaar hosted by the Verdun Rebekah Lodge No. 184 drew strong crowds Friday afternoon and evening. Mrs Florence Young opened proceedings after greetings from Mrs Harold Cleave, with booths selling pink and green themed crafts, home baking, fish pond, toys, and a tea room busy with patrons. Local talent included Miss Marion Hildon, Miss Mary Moyer, Miss June Clarke, Mr Kenneth Harrison, and Mlle Mollie Hepburn. A hunting party of seven men returned from Huntsville after ten days with one buck and two foxes.

Neighbours Honour Mr and Mrs Eric Leslie on Wedding Day

Ninety friends and neighbours gathered at the home of Mr and Mrs G Co Bishop on Friday November 17 to honour Mr and Mrs Eric Leslie. A program featured Rev J L Self Mildred Eason Carson Watson Jo Lyons and gifts included a gate-legged sofa and studio couch. The note wished the couple happiness and a long life together as many praised Frances and Eric for their cheerful dispositions and helpful natures.

Council Plans Snow Removal for Georgetown Streets

Weabers OY Town Council met in special session to discuss winter snow clearing with action expected at the December meeting. A street light on Arletta St was requested and will be considered when all council members are present. The next meeting is set for Wednesday November 22 to review the interim statement and finalize election arrangements if needed.

LODE Adopts Ship Crew Gifts and Local Aid Drive

Christmas parcels for the crew of the adopted mine sweeper were dispatched containing chocolates cigarettes pocket editions thermos bottles playing cards and games. The chapter voted funds for Christmas gifts for the adopted Northern school plus warm clothing and a bale of clothing. Donations included 5 to the Poppy Fund and 25 to the blanket fund for bomb victims.

Five new members were initiated at a Georgetown Lions Club dinner in the McGibbon House. Guests included Mayor Harold Cleave and Lions Vic Diggins Jack Armstrong Eric Colvin and others. Plans discussed for a memorial park on Water Street and a Christmas tree fundraiser to benefit local children.

Georgetown Welcomes Pte Rocky Lorusso Home From Overseas

Pte Rocky Lorusso arrives back in Georgetown after European service with the Lorne Scots. He fought in France after training in England and was invalided to England. He leaves behind wife Mary Wright in Scotland and plans to report to Toronto for Christie Street Hospital treatment after a thirty day furlough. An older brother serves with Canadian forces in Italy.
