Rev. Russell Self, native of Toronto and former educator, will assume the pastorate at Knox Presbyterian Church in Midland Norval. He has served as moderator and chaplain, taught manual training, and played in local sports leagues. He succeeds C Stewart who led the church for years before his death.

School Concert Brings Barrie Artists to Davie Fort
Thursday morning the High and Senior students at the Public School gathered at St John’s Church hall for a Davie family concert led by Barrie performers. The group featured Henderson Davie and family members including mezzo soprano and baritone along with a dramatic basso. They offered solos and duets with several favorite numbers and a mix of spirituals and old ballads. Guests Mrs Al Cameron and Evelyn Brown attended with Charles Water and others.

IODE Meeting Opens With New Members and Plans
Thirty five members attended the Countess of Strathmore Chapter IODE November meeting at Miss Ruth Evans home. The 1st vice regent presided in the Regent’s absence and welcomed two new members, an auction fundraiser for the Queen Mary Carpet Fund was announced for the next meeting at Miss Jean Mackenzie’s home. The group reported packing and dispatching a large bale to the adopted Haliburton school and donations for Christmas gifts and candy and nuts for the same school, with a committee appointed to oversee the event.

Jack Ruddy has been accepted as a rookie on the Ontario Provincial Police force and will begin training in Toronto next Monday. A Cobalt native, he worked at Alliance Paper Mills for years and boarded with Mr and Mrs James Boyle. He served with the RCAF aircrew overseas during the war.
