At Home Celebrates Norval Man Geordie Gollop’s 90th
At his Norval home on Sunday November 5 Geordie Gollop marked his 90th birthday with about 150 visitors from Montreal Toronto Galt Guelph Erin Milton Welland Burlington Hamilton Owen Sound and local villages. Guests included church and lodge friends and relatives as well as long distance callers. His sister-in-law Mrs Robert Gollop hosted the event with help from several relatives. Margaret Gollop of Toronto played a few tunes and Mr Gollop sang Water Cre ses with his son George at the piano. The gathering joined in old time songs and wished him well for next year’s celebration.

Former Georgetown man Vic Diggins joined a hunting party last week that killed a massive Redbridge elk weighing over 1000 pounds. Major J E Hahn shot the beast with a 375 Greening rifle near the provincial fish hatchery at Balsam Creek. eight men lifted it into a half ton truck. The antlers measured 43 inches spread and four feet above the head. Officials ordered the herd destroyed due to a livers parasite outbreak threatening cattle and horses.
