Georgetown's Halloween passed with few incidents as Police Chief Harley Lowe praised local teens and noted many eggs unsold and windows unbroken. He credited the disciplined youth and heavy safety presence of sixteen firemen and fifteen officers on duty for a calm night across the town.

A $25,000 plan to improve parking downtown cleared two readings for a borrowing by-law. On Saturday evening Mr and Mrs Jack Gudgeon of 9 Norman dy Boulevard entertained guests and relatives at a dance given by their children to celebrate their silver wedding anniversary. Guests were from New York Hamilton Hanover Guelph Toronto Milton Acton and Georgetown. High school commencement will be held this year on Friday November 14.
Town council awarded two major road work contracts on Monday. John Cucci Ltd. of Toronto will be paid 390,979 for Maple and Tyers Avenue reconstruction and Main Street South storm sewers. Armstrong Brothers of Brampton received 139,661 for Delrex Boulevard. Both were the lowest accepted bids.
Hyde account for outdoor lighting design for park baseball games was withdrawn from council records after Dr. Ern Hyde called the fee exorbitant. Park project stalled as initial cost estimates of 40 000 proved too low. Deputy Reeve Speight said the design account was drawn for further checking. Donna Denison defended hiring Writers Association firm, noting it does not imply poor work, only misfit for the project.
Halton County Medical Society denounces Finance Minister Bensons charge that doctors earn higher incomes than other groups as a distortion of facts. They cite a 3.2 percent annual rise in medical fees over a decade versus five percent cost of living, warn of doctor shortages due to policy, and blame rising hospital costs for higher health bills. Three outdoor skating rinks will operate this winter at Kennedy and Harrison schools and Cedarvale Park.
Esquesing council endorsed a multi point plan to cut trustees fees by 50 percent from 3000 to 1500 and abolish the mileage allowance. A 25 percent pay cut for those earning over 18000 and a 15 percent cut for 12000 to 18000 also called for. The resolution urged boards to freeze teacher salaries and curb consultants while demanding higher training standards. It recommended using existing buildings for temp classrooms and urged boards to publish financial estimates and hold public meetings. Comments by Deputy Reeve Hill Reeve Currie and Dr Marshall welcomed the plan as a needed tax relief.
A plan to convert the vacant Masson Motors garage at Edward Street corner into stores will be studied by the planning board. George Thomas, seeking development of the property, prompted council to allow him to present the proposal directly to planners after Monday’s meeting. A zoning change would be required to permit retail use.
