The Lonada Annual Shorthorn sale at L. Cadesky’s farm in Peterborough saw the top bull fetch 13000, the highest price ever for a Shorthorn in Ontario and for entry into Quebec. Purchases totaled 79476 with buyers from Quebec Ontario Alberta and many U S states. Weddings and a public school opening followed with Harrison Public School dedicating ceremonies and a tour by officials and guests.

The Georgetown Chamber of Commerce hosted its second annual dinner dance in Legi auditorium on Tuesday the 29th. Turkey dinner was catered by Legion ladies, with Royal saying grace and Sodern Aires providing music for dancing. Committee organizers included Jim Alcorn Harold McClure Jack Crichton and Wm Hamilton. Mr and Mrs S Handyard family recently moved to Norton Crescent.

Two Local Ladies See Sputnik Visible from Town Last Night
Two observers, Miss Dorothy Stone and Mrs Harold Page, reported seeing Sputnik 11 pass overhead last night. The satellite appeared reddish and star sized through binoculars for about 15 minutes, near dawn, with a Malton aircraft briefly contrasting before vanishing.

Lions Club Georgetown raised three thousand dollars last week from a jamboree and a 555 car draw to help finish paying the community swimming pool debt now within four thousand seven hundred dollars of being paid. Prizes included a 1958 Chevrolet refrigerator and range. Local residents won most prizes with Dick Miller Jr as the draw master and Serafino Russo the winning ticket holder.
