The 20th Armistice Anniversary is set for Sunday November 6 in Georgetown. A memorial service will be held at the Cenotaph starting promptly at 2 PM with long printed notices distributed before and at the service. Citizens are urged to attend.
A large turnout at the Limehouse Presbyterian Church dinner hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Appleyard on Nd. 7 Highway featured an extensive culinary display and a varied program. More than two hundred guests enjoyed a 6 to 8 pm meal followed by performances including Rev. Davidson, Mrs. Davidson, Miss Charlotte McCullough, Miss Helen McGowan, Thomas Warne, Jack Morrow, Mrs. James Yates, Clarence Varey, and Johnny Emmerson, with a late jam session near the piano.
At the Ontario Agricultural College event 134 two member Halton teams competed across grain dairy calf beef and foal clubs with strong showings. Acton participants Bruce Reid and Dick Van Gooren led Halton entries across multiple projects while Georgetown Durham County and Peterboro clubs claimed top honours. A banquet led by Dr. G I Christie closed the event with speeches by P M Dewan and W R Beek as results were announced and trophy prizes distributed.
The Ashgrove Young People’s Union met Sunday night with Mr. Jack Ruddell as president guiding open and business. Miss Zeta Graham presided, John Hunter read Scripture, Mrs Earl Wigan gave the topic, and a duet by Mrs Clayton Wilson and Miss Edith Wrigglesworth pleased attendees. The anniversary supper and concert are set for Thursday evening November 10 in the United Church. The Auxiliary met at Mrs Earl Wilson’s home last Tuesday to introduce the new study book The World in Canada by Rev J L MacKay.
The Georgetown Baptist Church marked its 91st anniversary on October 30 with full pews and fine weather. Dr E G Hinds of King Street Baptist Church in Kitchener led morning and evening services, preaching on Jesus identity and on recovering the lost. The event featured choir anthems, solos by Helen McGowan and R Lebrun, organ by M Young, and duets by the Young brothers. An anniversary supper for about 250 followed, with an evening program including organ solos, readings by Ray Johnston, and a talk by Rev H E Wintemute on the plough as a symbol of Christian life and cooperation.
Georgetown High School fought through injuries to push Milton to a 3-1 loss. Barber, Lorriman, and Schertz sparked the attack while Schertz delivered a key punt and Milton widened a second period safety. Georgetown defense and persistent effort earned praise despite the narrow defeat.

An October relief costs report shows $146.92 in municipal expenses, with $130.12 approved for the Relief Commission. Peel and Halton Ex-Wardens Association held a banquet at the Milton Inn Milton on Tuesday October 25 with about 50 attendees. Charles Readhead presided and Hugh Cleaver MP spoke. Officers for 1938 were elected and the group plans annual banquets alternating Halton and Peel to strengthen connections.
The Bridge Club reports strong attendance despite Halloween absences. Top pair was L Humberstone and W King, followed by Ed Hoare and Cam Sinclair, with D Wallace and J Mills close behind. A month long November competition with prizes is planned. new members are urged to join. Georgetown sent three local pairs to Hillsburg’s event, with Fergus taking bridge first prize and Arthur second. Jim Kennedy and Cam Sinclair led Georgetown’s showing.
The NORVAL Rifle Club held a Monday night range session with unusually low turnout due to Halloween activities elsewhere. Scoring records show scores from H Nurse 99 to Wilson 97 and Stevenson 97, with several entries incomplete or occluded by OCR errors.
