Mining output rises in Crow's Nest Pass districts
The Crow's Nest Pass area shows idle mines with eight to nine thousand tons of coal mined daily while Coleman Blairmore and Bellevue mines increase output to around six thousand tons. An Order-in-Council raised land clearing premiums from six to eight dollars per acre, with a twenty acre limit, enabling a settler to obtain up to one hundred sixty dollars. Walter Lindley Jones, editor of the Mercantile Guardian, notes a looming China boom and predicts Britain and Canada as main beneficiaries.
