A garbage truck ignited Tuesday with dense smoke and flames along Mill Street toward the dump at Guelph Maple Avenue East. Hydraulic hoses burned, trapping the crew who bailed out as police alerted firefighters. a bulldown at the dump opened the back to flood the blaze with water, ending the incident.
K W Binkley, plastics products manager for the Fissties Div of Smith & Stone Ltd, spoke to the Daughters of the Church at St George’s Anglican Church. He described Georgetown plant products from dishpans to gears for heavy machinery and noted growing everyday use of plastics. Mrs Walter Richn presented a token gift. meeting was presided by Mrs Gordon Spence with refreshments served.

A Hornby man, Frank Hae, 32, RR 2 Hornby, was riding on a hay load on Seventh Line of Fiquesing when a bale tumbled, causing him to fall to the road. He was treated in hospital for a shoulder injury and other bruises.

Georgetown Kinette Club election meeting at Stan's Restaurant last Thursday sparked pandemonium when rural guitarists stormed in to back Sue Charlton for treasurer. Charlton was elected as club officer, Gail Collat to preside as president, with Mary Jonenes Sterene Marilyn Bunracks secretary Sue Charlton treasurer Jean Murphy Jackie Kent Sylvia Dearsley directors and Eve Middleton bulletin editor. The Kinette Club will support the Kinette-Kruise plans and tag day for the 12 team softball league, chaired by Jackie Kent, with 130 town girls registered so far.
