Esquesing Council was notified of a 62 000 expenditure for roads in 1951 by the Dept of Highways. An arbitration ruling fixes North Halton High School Area costs by new assessments with Acton Milton Georgetown Esquesing Nass as shares totaling 40 901 28. Motion carried.
Georgetown opens baseball season with an Inter mediate B entry facing Clarkson Inter mediate A Milton Acton Waterdown in a Saturday game. Harvey Chappel will bolster the pitching staff as most of last year’s players return. Club officers Bob Lane and Spence McKinnon were reelected. Corey Herring ton handles publicity. Vern Bowman takes the coaching role, joining B. F. Murfin Sheet Metal.
Toronto head office staff of about 45 toured the Provincial Paper Mill on Saturday. They viewed the mill in the morning and were entertained at luncheon in the conference room.
A former Georgetown girl Jac queline Lois Norton married Robert Reginald Sebire in Kenilworth United Church Hamilton. The bride, daughter of Alexander and (Lanny) Norton of Glen Williams Georgetown, wore white satin with Chantilly lace and a coronet veil. Attendants included Mary Mark and Pauline Norton. flower girl Sandra Elson. ring bearer Bruce Norton. Reception for 75 at Mundy’s Tea Room. The couple planned a honeymoon in the southern states.
The Countess of Strathmore Chapter IODE hosted a cooking school at St Johns Memorial Hall with Miss June Mead and Mrs Evelyn Lewis demonstrating. Prizes included a Mixmaster from McClures Home Furnishings, vouchers, hampers, and Frigidaire tumblers.
The Bishop of Niagara Rt. Rev. Walter Bagnall preached at St George’s Church on Sunday morning as several youths were confirmed. A young woman in a beige suit and straw hat wore a corsage with snakeskin accessories. Confirmands will reside in Chatham.
The community notes recount a birthday surprise for Mrs. Calvin Van Zant at her relatives home, several girls winning junior and intermediate championships at Acton High School field day, and IODE cooking school events in Georgetown. Others include social visits, birthday parties, WI conferences, new home preparations by John and Glynn, and local traffic developments with Law Construction resuming work.
J. R. Kirby, who graduates in dentistry this year, plans to open a dental office here this spring. He will locate in the upstairs office formerly occupied by Dr. J. R. Watson.
Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Foster and family spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. M. Hancock in Toronto. Visitors from Rochester with the George Fosters included Ed Sharpe and his wife and Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Sharpe. Mrs. Norman Boyd and daughters Norma Jane and Heather of Toronto visited last week with Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Beaumont.
More than 100 Anglican young people gathered at St George's Church in St. Catharines for the annual rally. Tom Digweed led the new officers, Rev. J. D. Gilmour set the theme Youth at the Crossroads and groups discussed moral political and leisure time aspects. Rt Rev Walter Bagnall spoke on the theme and Marion Smith won the Brounsall Trophy for public speaking. Games and dances closed the event.
