Georgetown ministers plan six Sunday evening open air services in the town park from July 14 to August 18. The council endorsed park use after a letter from the Ministerial Association. Some opposed loudspeaker use and religious gatherings arguing for equal access and caution.
J Sylvester of Toronto won the grand prize of $2,000 at a Lions Club 425 dinner held at the Riviera. More than 200 men attended the $25 per head event with a filet dinner and floor show. Tickets were drawn on stage with several contestants eliminated until Sylvester was declared winner.
The Kinsmen plan a parkette on municipally owned Edward and Byron Street corner. Council authorized Ron Snow to submit plans for approval with potential playground equipment and fencing. If sold, proceeds would go to park purposes. a pie wagon and a 3 wheel motorcycle are up for sale as part of council actions.
An emergency donor clinic is planned ahead of schedule at Georgetown District Memorial Hospital. The event, advertised with unclear names, aims to collect blood donations within a few days to support urgent medical needs.
Town council and regional branch team up for a free dusk fireworks display in the park. A grant of 250 dollars was passed to support the annual Victoria Day celebration drawing large crowds each year.
Jack Runham of Parkviewer placed his daughter’s bike in the Herald classified columns and received fourteen calls between noon and 1 pm plus more later that same day. The buyer came from the first inquiry and the bike changed hands.

The Chamber of Commerce approved paying repainting costs for the eastern highway billboard and funding a sightseeing bus for tours during the Bantam tournament. A directors’ meeting occurs monthly, with the next on Tuesday May 7 at 8 15 pm at North Allen Gate & Connery Club.
A recent open house showcased the school’s Educational Skills including visitors Baga and Bailey with demonstrations in woodworking electronics drafting and motor mechanics. Students participated in spelling sewing and cooking while the tech shop drew strong interest from attendees as French plays and circus themed displays entertained the crowd. The event, praised by staff and students, attracted a large turnout and public appreciation with plans to repeat annually.
Public library hosts a school child art exhibit this week May 6. Works loaned from the Art Institute of Ontario feature pieces by Georgetown students. Librarian Miss Marjory Nazer hopes the display inspires students to pursue future art exhibitions.
Principal J Lembert estimated fall enrolment could rise to about 1 025 students, up to 225 over present levels, prompting talks on expanding teaching space and converting rooms to handle the anticipated load.
The Countess of Strathmore Chapter LODE gathers at St George's Parish Mall to celebrate 24th Anniversary with a Daughters of the Church meal. Georgetown and District Memorial Hospital plans events including talks and a turkey buffet to mark National Hospital Day.
Emmett O'Rourke hauling two tons of burning hay on a wagon from Howard Stull farm to the Morrison farm had the rig detached after flames started near the stake line. Firemen and neighbors battled the blaze, saving some bales but the wagon and telephone cables were badly damaged.
