The choir of St Ge Angiican performed after service with organist Georges DeKleer directing. Tom Trouten of SS John's United sang solos along with Mrs Paul Armstrong and Douglas Pantling. Faster Sunday happens early this year March 2th.
High school students stage an Eiffel Tower themed dance in the auditorium. The event features Parisian murals and decor, with student actors portraying French waitstaff and festive celebrations.
Fire department hosted six Guides units visiting over March 1 to 4. Corpa from Holy Cross and St Andrew's toured March 1 2 3 4, Glen Williams from March 4 with South Georgetown. They viewed trucks equipment and three films. Hosts were firemen Wilf Breen Harold Bennett Gord Inglis and Herb Roshier Wary Copland operated the projector.
The Sunshine School collected proceeds from the December Christmas Musicale at the high school. Half was donated to the North Halton Association for Retarded Children, and the other half to the Hospital for Sick Children. The event was put on by the Georgetown Citizens Band, the Branch 120 Lecon Glee Club, and the Gloria Patri Choir.
Bill Lee will succeed Jack Fraser as president of the George Town Golf and Country Club Men's Section this year. Fraser remains on the 196s executive as past president with officers Irv Cheyne S Thomson Clarence Porter Phil A ecumbrack and others guiding the club.
A high school teacher Thomas Heer was acclaimed as a new director of the Georgetown and District Memorial Hospital Board at the annual hospital association meeting in Wrigglesworth Auditorium. Ted Kvana Dick Licata and Harold McClure were reappointed by acclamation. Claude Kentner declined reelection. Stanley Martin of the Ontario Hospital Association spoke on hospital ownership and operation. HC Graham Gilhooly introduced the administrator and department heads presented reports with no discussion.
The Georgetown Auxiliary of the North Halton Association for Retarded Children held its annual Ides of March Dance attracting about 250 guests. The June Bugs provided entertainment as Ma yor Joe Gibbons and council members attended along with Stun shine School principal Mrs Jeffares. Tickets were five dollars a couple.
The White Oaks Area purchases a 100 acre campsite at Clifford Ont for Guides and Browns from Georgetown. The site features a lodge for Browns and camp sites for Guides with nature trails. Each District pays $3 per Brownie and Guide. North Georgetown District plans a Variety Show this week at Wrigglesworth School to raise funds.
Council plans to expand the fleet with a new 4 ton dump truck and discusses adding a small pickup type vehicle. Tenders are invited this week for 2 ton 3 ton and 1 ton vehicles and a decision will follow after tender reviews.
Georgetown Little Viestre presented Under the Sycamore Tree and was judged by Mr. Hugh Hesaine at the Ontario Drama Festival. Woodstock's Someone Waiting opened Tuesday. tonight Georgetown Little Theatre stages As You Desire Me followed by My Three Angels. Awards are Saturday night. Georgetown also plans a badminton club beginning tonight at 8:30 in the high school auditorium with Will Robins organizing. a permanent club may form in September.
Ontario Water Resources Commission urged channeling mill waste into the town sewer system. Water chairman Don Dowers proposed a 25 percent charge on industrial waste, but five councilors opposed the plan and tied the issue to sewer capacity and rebates. Mayor Gibbons opposed the charge, while Reeve Elliott sought assurances mill waste would not clog the sewer. Dr Powers warned the surcharge removal would raise the general tax rate. a committee meeting was planned to consider concrete proposals.
Five hundred Smith and Stone Ltd. workers may walk off jobs this week depending on a local union committee vote. At a Sunday mass meeting Local 14161 of the United Mine Workers approved giving Rex Cook and officers power to strike if the conciliation board report is unsatisfactory. The board’s report, due within 30 days from March 7, will be reviewed by the local committee before forwarding to the district office for perusal.
Emergency Measures Organization conducts Operation Cloudburst to simulate flood rescues Sunday. Halton EMO leads Georgetown operations with mobile radio units from Terra Cutto to Belfountain, while Peel handles Georgetown to Streetaville rescues with a light aircraft for reconnaissance. Crédit Valley Conservation Authority river watchers join the exercise under Major Jack Adams and Bruce Deere.
Don Garbutt 24 and son Kesin 10 months were in a Ford panel truck struck by a CNR train at R20 am on the 4th Line West near No 7 Highway in Georgetown. The vehicle demolished, wreckage strewn for 60 feet. two young boys died. Funeral for the children set for Thursday at David A McClure Funeral Home Brampton.
Red Cross blitz night at Delrex Plage Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce raised 1736 dollars by 8:30 p.m. as 160 canvassers under Campaign Chairman G Corbett completed the first round and planned further calls. Industry contributed about 10 percent of the total with around 18 to 20 percent still to be added.
