The Orkville council voted strict economy cutting most salaries. Clerk J L Barnes saw his pay drop from 1800 to 1600 dollars and quit, with resignation accepted. Assistant clerk Mrs Whitaker also left after a cut from 65 to 50 dollars per month. The council seeks new applicants for the clerk post. A Georgetown woman jokes about her checker career remarking on her husband’s hobby.
At the Ontario Agricultural College trials, old Parin Golden Self Blanching celery outperformed new strains except for sun market types. Cabbage tested Golden Acre and others show uniform heads but split risk. corn favored White Var and Golden Bantam for early results. Tomatoes of Earthina and John Eger-Earlian cross yielded early fruit. breeding material transferred to stations for testing through 1925. Manure placement along rows or hills proved as effective as broadcast use, with manure essential for good yields.
