160 Pound Bale Clothing Sent to Russia
The Canadian Aid to Russia fund reports cash contributions totaling 927,422,000 with in kind gifts valued at 70,730. The effort ships 3 freight cars of clothing to the Soviet Union with more bales weighing about 700 pounds sent last week. Local supporters include the Local Council of Women 560 Maple Leaf Dairy 100 Victory Club 300 and others plus a Toronto donor offering six hand painted watercolors to raffle for the fund.

Mrs D R McLaughlin of Glendronach Parm learned from Ottawa that their twenty year old son Pilot Officer William McLaughlin was killed overseas. Funeral services were held in England last Friday. The family had heard little since a monthly letter and no word for a week. He was a graduate of Upper Canada College and studied at the University of Toronto before enlisting. He earned his wings and commission, the first air force member from the district to make the supreme sacrifice.

The Geornctosa Women's Institute hosted a charity marathon at the Institute. Ten hostesses assisted for the event. First prize went to Mrs D Lavingstone and Mrs G V King. second prize to D Livingstone and G V King in a draw. third prize to Mrs T Jones and Miss M Jones. Proceeds totaled $8250.

Public School attendance returned to normal after illness. February attendance at 60.3 percent, above county average. War Savings totals averaged 8.30 to 8H per week, with $125 in January and $132 in February. Pupils surpassed $3,000 in War Savings. Junior Red Cross fundraiser notes salvage drive for Toronto proceeds. Russian Relief Punch collection raised $35.40.

Rev Nathan Waddell Dies at 85 in Ballinafad
Former Ballinafad minister Rev Nathan Waddell died March 21 at his daughter Mira Blake Vannatter’s home in Ballinafad. He served forty years in ministry with last posts in Ballinafad and Melville. Funeral at Ballinafad church conducted by Rev A O W Poreman with Rev George Aitkens assisting. He was in his 86th year. Interment at Greenwood Cemetery. He was born in Metcalfe Ontario and married Mary Jane Fraser of Norwood Ontario who died years ago. He leaves eight children and one sister. Pallbearers listed. flowers by Boys Sunday School Class.
