A record crowd of 1947 witnessed Georgetown edge Fergus 3-2 in the Intermediate B Group Playoffs opener. Durant and Ferri had a late clash, Beaum on and Fortis scored for Georgetown, Bindernagel starred for Fergus, with Evans stout in goal. A return game may be set in Galt soon.

Air Force Cross awarded to Squadron Leader Charles Stockford
Word has arrived that Squadron Leader Charles Stockford receives the Air Force Cross and will be honored in a Royal Governor General led investiture in Ottawa on a date to be announced. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Harry Stockford of Georgetown and formerly head of Uxbridge Public School before joining the Commonwealth Air Training Plan as a civilian flying instructor. He later served in the RCAP, attained squadron leader, and now attends the University of Toronto.

St. Alban's Ladies Guild raised 630 at a Glen Town Hall concert last Wednesday, gifts allocated to Georgetown Recreational Council. Harry Hale MC entertained with comic numbers. performers included Gertrude Cain, Mary Moyer, Marion Hepburn, Kenneth Harrison, Dianné Hillock, and Mariene Bludd. The event featured Glen Red Wings hockey team introductions with coach Steve Hal Pin and manager Tom Haines.

Government Recreational Plan Explained by Community Welfare Man
At a Georgetown Recreation Council meeting in the Municipal Building on February 27, Charles Austerberry of Toronto explained the Provincial government plan offering municipalities funding for recreational programs. He urged hiring a full time director with the government covering part of the salary and maintenance costs, noting 36 towns already employ directors. Austerberry said operation must start and a director hired before funding, and cited Sutton Whitby Whitby Pembroke Ingersoll as examples. The GR C has support from Town Council and plans to seek free aid at the next meeting. The council also highlighted a successful season of hockey organized by Alf Sykes Jack Brill and Jim Sargent, culminating in playoff matches at the Arena.

John W. Kennedy Prominent Georgetown Citizen Dies
Ill health since last July, John W Kennedy, longtime Georgetown hardware merchant and civic figure, died at home on Church Street. He served as town treasurer and on school and public boards, survived by his wife and son Major Hervyn Kennedy, with four grandchildren and several siblings. Funeral at McClure Funeral Home followed by interment at Greenwood Cemetery Georgetown.

Nelson Tuck M M dies at Georgetown home
Funeral services were held for Nelson Howard Tuck at his Georgetown residence on Queen Street after his death on Friday March 1. A longtime millwright with Provincial Coated Paper Mills, he served in World War I and was awarded the Military Medal. Surviving are his wife Alice King two sons William and Bert a daughter Alice and several siblings. The obituary notes his community roles with the Legion Curling Club Georgetown Fire Brigade and Masonic orders and lists numerous tributes and attendees from across Ontario industries.

Homecoming for Bert Marchment Returns from Overseas
Home Cpl Bert Marchment son of Mr and Mrs Walter Marchment of Glen Williams arrived back in Canada after serving with the Armoured Corps since March 1943. He trained at Camp Borden and in New Brunswick and was stationed in England Belgium Holland and Germany with No 2 GA ORU and OF WN headquarters.
