The Prime Minister will visit Halton County before the June 18 election. He is slated to arrive at the Brant Inn in Burlington at 5:30 pm on June 5 and travel by cavalcade to Oakville.
An 81 member council approved the first two readings of By-Law 62-15, replacing 1961 rules and setting a two year window for industrial first building requirements. Draft figures show industrial assessments tied to square footage with a max two year sale price for industrial land. one councillor opposed the plan and questioned its drafting and impact on apartment exemptions.
Mr. and Mrs. M Duncanson of Norval celebrate their children's graduation in Toronto. Bob Duncanson earned a B A from Knox College at Convocation Hall after Knox College ceremony. Margaret Duncanson trained as a nurse at Toronto General Hospital and was among 82 nurses at the Convocation Hall ceremony. A hospital cafeteria reception followed. Reverend Duncanson serves at Norval Presbyterian Church.
Halton County rescuers led by Bruce Harley of Georgetown competed in the Ontario Emergency Measures rescue competition at Wellington Waterloo Airport in Kitchener. The nine man Halton team did not win the points contest but gained valuable experience, with members from Oakville and other towns and additional training since last October under Len Thorne and Harold Doane.
The council and police association agreed on a two year contract to be signed this week. The pact sets a salary scale from 3800 to 4950 this year with automatic increases of 100 in all categories in 1942. The council on Mendley approved the contract efficiently.
Rex Heslop faces a bakery fraud case in Milton County Court before Judge George Elliott. The grand jury previously returned a true bill against Heslop, president of Delrea Developments Ltd, and associates. He appeared for trial after pleading not guilty and was released on $20,000 bail. Crown counsel Peter McWilliamsons leads the prosecution, Arthur Martin QC represents Heslop.
On a campaigning swing, candidates in town met residents at private homes. Mrs Carl Nowleau hosting events at her lawn and Carl Rouleau toured activities with Mr and Mrs Alex Korrack on Elizabeth Street. The evening ended with refreshments at the Korrack home. Dr Marley and associates greeted constituents at the Wildwood home of Mr and Mrs F Tlarnson.
Merman Iareld Rody, 48, of Acton, father of three, died after being struck while crossing No 7 Highway near Acton by a Georgetown car. He was taken to Georgetown District Memorial Hospital and died about an hour after admission from head injuries and multiple fractures. His survivors include wife Patricia and daughters Gloria 13, Judy 11, and Susan 9.
A new $150,000 meat plant will operate in Georgetown in three months. Longueur Meat Co of Riviere Des Plaiie, Quebec, suburb of Montreal, seeks bids to build a factory here that will employ twenty or more people. Vice president David Granotsky confirmed the tender process in a telephone call with the Herald.
Maple Leaf hockey figure and Toronto riding candidate Leonard Ned Kelly will tour Norval on Friday. A motor cavalcade meets him at Norval, escorts him into town, with a first stop at Delrex Market Centre and a rally near Ma real Motors. The Girle Pipe Band will accompany him. If weather fails, the event moves to John St. Jarena.
With the season end the arena undergoes renovation as a new cement floor will be poured within two weeks, more dressing room space added, and sand removed from around freezing pipes. Restauranteur Sam Yanaki watches closely, aiming to bring wrestling to the arena once the floor is finished.
The four hopefuls for the upcoming Federal Election deposited $200 and filed with the County Returning Officer. Milton Vowr Hal and Irving Wileen of Social Credit, along with Sandy Best of Progressive Conservative and Harry Harley for Libaraly, each had nomination forms signed by 25 voters as required. The slate, confirmed Monday, appears set barring last minute changes.
