The Georgetown War Service Recognition Committee has prepared a preliminary list of men and women to be honoured on July 1 with cheques from Georgetown residents for wartime service. Corrections should be sent to the Georgetown Herald by June 15, and the article notes incomplete enlistment records.
The St George's Sunday School teaching staff and guests honored Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Eason with a silver tray for their service as they leave Georgetown. Archdeacon W G O Thogrpeon read the tribute, and gifts were presented to Mr. Harvey Dewhurst and Miss Elsie Stigger for their forthcoming marriage. Mrs A E Dawson accompanied as pianist and Mrs Ted Amols organized social events.
A Georgetown Lions Club garden party on Monday June 16 at Georgetown Park plans to raise funds for sanitary facilities at Teen Town Hall and potential future building upgrades. Entertainers include Mildred Morey, MC Al Harvey, Johnny Perkins, Evelyn Newell, and Al Berthiaume with ventriloquism.
On Wednesday June 3 the council gave first and second readings to a by law authorizing a 375000 debenture issue for the sewerage system, with open bidding to replace a private sale. The session also passed a by law for housing on Maple Avenue and heard requests on park sale, bus routing, and insurance.
At the Alliance Paper Mills annual dinner employees with five or more years of service received pins. The local mill led in presenting 36 and 30 year pins, with many 25 and 10 year pin recipients noted. The event featured entertainment by Mrs. Herb Brown and the Glassford Orchestra, with Thomas Eason as chairman.
Crowds pack St Stephen's Hornby Anglican Church for the dedication of World War I and II Honour Rolls. Veterans march in with the Lorne Scots band as Reverend Gray Eakins urges vigilance and Christian freedom. Readings include Holy Holy Holy and Last Post followed by Reveille. The sermon recalls Vimy Ypres and Normandy and calls for continued dedication to liberty and faith.
