Mr and Mrs Kenneth Hunter announce the engagement of their youngest daughter Christina Pearl to Thomas Golden son of Mr and Mrs Frank Golden Georgetown. The marriage will take place quietly in August.
Mrs. R. Guyot and family prepare to leave Glen Williams at month end for Toronto. The Guyots, with roots in Pudsey England and Belgium service ties, have contributed to community life in Glen Williams and Georgetown, with roles in the Legion and local clubs. They will continue education and public service in Ontario.
A lightning strike caused a fire at McMurchy’s Woollen Mill in Flattonville damaging the mill and destroying stock in process. Angus McMurchy reported the blaze began in an electric motor. lines were down, delaying help as he drove seven miles to Brampton for aid. Brampton fire brigades battled for two hours. employees and residents saved wood, records, and furniture. The mill, a brick and stone building about sixty years old, has tied history with the McMurchy family and employs about twenty people.

Rev. P F J Dunlop officiated at a quiet wedding July 1 at the Parsonage uniting Ethel Alcott daughter of Mr and Mrs George Alcott with Frank King son of Mrs King and the late Frank King of Georgetown. The bride wore a pink triple sheer afternoon frock with matching accessories and a corsage of pink carnations. Attendant Miss Joan Young wore blue sheer with white accessories. Brother Percy King of the Lorne Regt Niagara-on-the-Lake was groomman. After a reception at the bride's home, Mrs Alcott wore navy crepe with white accessories and carnations. The couple will reside in Georgetown after a short honeymoon.
A car driven by James Hiddleaton of Georgetown went out of control on No 17 road near Brant, struck a tree and went over embankment. Passengers Mra Margaret Oillevet and Mra Kay Holmes of Georgetown, and Mr Gorton Reid of Brampton suffered scalp lacerations and minor injuries, while Hiddleaton and a fourth occupant were treated for shock and bruises. All were taken to Peel Memorial Hospital Brampton and are recovering. Provincial Constable A I Hodgson investigated.
Read of a planned Georgetown Civic Holiday with a full program of races and games for children and adults. The event includes music by the Lome Scots Band, garden party, a dance, and a $2500 cash draw, all to support soldiers via the Active Service League.
Cyclone like storms over the Georgetown region produced wind, rain, and lightning across a twenty mile swath. Power and telephone lines were down, trees and barns were destroyed, and several farms reported severe damage including drowned poultry and flooded homes. Oakville Bronte Milton Alton Erin suffered outages and blocked roads as crews worked to restore services.

Lightning struck multiple barns near Milton causing extensive damage. Stringer’s barn on the 3rd line in Milton was completely destroyed. Reuben Ferguson’s large north of town barn was blazing at 6 p m with hay losses. Aate of George Douglas near Palermo and Milton suffered two chickens and 35 tong of hay lost. Peter Gatons barn on Milton Heights burned and reports say a brick schoolhouse in Palermo district was struck by wind though unconfirmed.
Rev. PF J Dunlop was inducted into the Norval Mount Pleasant charge on Friday July 31 after serving Laurel United Church for over fourteen years. Rev J A Leonce of Huttonville officiated at the Norval United Church service.
