Veteran Guard Receives Warm Georgetown Welcome
Large crowds gathered on Friday and Sunday to welcome the Veteran Guard of Toronto. Mayor Gibbens attended the civic reception as 175 officers and men arrived by train and staged a drill demonstration. The unit then guarded key town sites with Lorne Scots Reserve, ending with a drumhead service and parade.

Former District Resident Dies In British Columbia
Robert John Cunningham longtime Crescent Valley merchant and district resident for 35 years died July 6 at Kootenay Lake General Hospital. Born in Noteval Ontario about 60 years ago he moved west in 1907 living at Winlow Bridesville and Tagham before settling Crescent Valley 25 years ago. Funeral held July 10 in Nelson with prayers and floral tributes. burial in Nelson Memorial Park. Survived by wife Barbara and two daughters Belle and Barbara plus two sons Gilbert and Robert, a brother William and sister Mrs Ethel Kerney.

United Spanish War Veterans Hold Picnic at Acton Park

A large crowd gathered Sunday afternoon July 14 for a Drumhead Service on the High School lawns led by the local Ministerial Association. The 80th Reserve Coy Veterans Guard of Canada with marching was joined by the Lorne Scots bands and a brass band, as Rev. W.G.C. Thompson and Rev. J.B. Ostrom spoke on sacrifice, liberty, and unity with prayers for King and Commonwealth. The service ended with Onward Christian Soldiers and a benediction.
