Atkinson Alexander Wedding in Knox Church

Mary Alexander daughter of Mr and Mrs John Alexander wed Vernon Hughes Atkinson son of Rev and Mrs L E Atkinson in Knox Presbyterian Church. Rev O C Cochrane presided with Rev L E Atkinson. Bride wore ivory satin and lace in her mother’s dress with pearl jewelry and orange blossom halo. Bridesmaids wore lavender and daffodil yellow. groom’s cousin Walter Raham attended. The couple left for a northern wedding trip and will reside in Toronto.

Sewage Map and Engineer's Report Available at Municipal Office

A large map of the proposed Georgetown sewage system is posted at the Municipal Office with the engineer's report for property owners to read. A full-page Herald production will follow later this summer. Dr C V Williams will explain details to ratepayers. a public meeting with health officials is planned.

Sergeant Major Henry Shepherd Receives British Empire Medal

Company Sergeant Major Henry Shepherd is shown receiving the Member of the British Empire decoration at an investiture in Queen's Park on June 17. A veteran of the last war, he served with Halton Rifles, 5th Battalion, and later Lorne Rifles Scottish, rising to W.O.1 and RSM before re enlistment in 1940.

Generous Local Response to Sick Children's Hospital Campaign

Georgetown Lions Club organizers G W McZintock and LeRoy Dale lead a town wide canvass for the Building Fund Appeal for the Hospital for Sick Children. Early tallies show several large donations from Dominion Seed House E W Dale John D Kelly Federal Salon Engine The Dayfoot Shoe Company Georgetown Lumber Co and others totaling about 200 dollars with multiple smaller gifts recorded.

Esquesing Council Meeting Deputations and Allocations

Esquesing Township Council met Tuesday evening July 3 with all members present. Deputations included representatives from the Esquesing Agricultural Society Acton Fair Board and local groups. Officials approved payments to assessors, utilities, and relief and road accounts totaling several amounts. The meeting adjourned to August 6 or when called by the Reeve.

Georgetown High School Graduate Albert E. Graham Dies

Albert E. Graham, a Georgetown High School graduate, died at his Gore Bay home on June 16. He attended Belfountain Public School and Chatham Business College, then ran a business in Little Current. He served in Parliament until redistribution removed his seat. Surviving are his wife, son Lee, a brother Capt R. L. Graham, and sisters Mrs. Agnes Burnett, Mra H. Matthews. He was a Past Grand Master of the Masonic Lodge. Interment followed at Gore Bay cemetery.

Elm Street Grading and Sewage Vote Decided by Council

The Georgetown council voted to plan late September or early October for a sewage by law referendum as Elm Street grading and drainage improvements were discussed. A by law to resurface Queen Street with 5000 debentures was approved and the county rate was paid to secure a 8 463.33 discount.

Capt Lynne Wilson Weds in Toronto Glenview Church

Capt Lynne Arthur Wilson and Miss Jean Kirkland wed at Glenview Presbyterian Church Toronto with Rev R J Kirkland officiating. The ceremony featured music by Dr Stanley Glen and Dr R A McEachern, with Miss Edith Storer as soloist and a bridal party including Mrs Eric St John Bare and Misses Beth and Freda Kirkland. The couple will reside in Toronto. Wilson, a Georgetown native, served overseas since 1962 and was wounded at Caen.

Mr and Mrs J H Lillico hosted a large family reunion at Shady Lamp Farm R R 4 Peterborough gathering the entiss family of 12 of the late Mr and Mrs William Lillico.
