The Local Council of Women held its annual meeting at Mr J B Mackenzie’s home with President Jan Zimd and presider Sire C Hayes. A lecture offer by Miss Elliott on wartime food buying and making was approved for February at the Library. Treasurer’s report was favorable. various committees and officers were elected, and the meeting closed with God Save the King.

Mrs. Geo. Canute Passes After Thirty Four Years in Community
Mrs. George Canute died at her home on Thursday January 21 after living in Georgetown for thirty four years. Funeral was held at her daughter's home on Saturday with Rev. C. C. Cochranes officiating. Pallbearers included W G Edwards Hamilton Dr Donald Houston Donald Latimer W D Barber Acton Ronald Latimer and John Kerr. Four grandchildren served as flower bearers. Born in Badysford Scotland seventy three years ago she moved to Canada at fifteen and later settled in Georgetown before marrying George Canute of Wentworth County who died in 1900. Surviving are brothers and sisters in Scotland and five children Mrs George Hill Georgetown Mrs Nellie Wanstaffe Hamilton Mrs Eva Darber Acton Joseph Canute R C M E P and Mrs Sisan Houston Georgetown Another daughter Mrs Tryphoss Latimer died years ago. There are sixteen grandchildren. Interment at Greenwood Cemetery.
