St Albans Church Glen Williams members met Tuesday evening January 18 for the annual Vestry. Rector Ven W G O Thompson presided. Finances remained in excellent condition with overpaid apportionment and a comfortable balance. Arthur Beaumont reelected Rector's Warden and Montague Merrydsy reelected People's Warden. Insurance on the Church and Parish Hall increased. Lay Delegate Lindley Beaumont chosen for two year term. Vestry adjourned with benediction and refreshments.

Remarkable War Effort Shows Across Mrs Johnston Birthday
Mrs W D Johnston aged 83 celebrated her January 18 birthday and talked proudly of four years of wartime service. Her sister Miss Annie Thompson and they both knit socks mitts and sewn garments for Red Cross and Grenfell Mission. They donated home made children’s clothing to Tamblyn’s Drug Store shipments to British War Victims while supporting the Navy League and war savings stamps as gifts. Johnston born at Ashgrove later moved from Stewarttown to Georgetown with family ties including Rev Griffin Thompson and daughter Mrs Norman Snyder.

Mrs James Louth learned on Monday that her husband Flight Sergeant James Jimmie Louth is missing after operations overseas. He has thirty trips to Berlin and participated in a large raid with the Iroquois Squadron aboard a Halifax bomber.

Pascoe Soldier Dies of Wounds in Italy
Pte John Pascoe of the 48th Highlanders of Canada died from wounds received in Italy. Reported to his wife in Terra-Gotta, he leaves two children and his parents Mr and Mrs Emilio Pascoe of 78 Elm Street. A brother Thomas Anthony Pascoe lives at 67 Sydenham Street Toronto.

Halton Native Shorthorn Breeder Dies in Toronto
John Fothergill Mitchell a Halton native and Shorthorn Breeders Association former vice president died January 12 after a long illness. Born in Milton sixty six years ago he farmed in Burlington and imported Shorthorn stock from Scotland. He originated the Orange Blossom breed and exhibited at the C N E and Royal Winter Fair. Survived by widow Gladys Shirley Mitchell and sons Ivan of Toronto Morley of Hamilton. Funeral held Saturday with burial in Burlington Cemetery.

A new headquarters for the local Navy League is established in the Tooms over Herald Office, leased through Mrs. J B Moore of Clarridge's Millinery. Members will meet every Thursday evening at the new rooms instead of Mrs Welter Mendham’s home, and donations of clothing are to be left there for sailors.
