Georgetown Fall Fair Board Holds Annual Meeting
The Georgetown Fall Fair Board held its annual meeting on a Saturday with an enthusiastic gathering. President Craig Reid thanked officers and supporters, praised the 1943 show, and urged more exhibitors and community involvement for 1944. Treasurer P W Cleave reported funds and prize increases, and directors discussed improvements, baby show classes, and a school children parade. The board elected officers for 1944 and planned a September fair.

Death Comes Suddenly to Wm. H. Long
William H. Long longtime Georgetown resident and owner of Long's Confectionery and Gray Coach Depot died suddenly in Toronto on Thursday January 13. He was a longtime community leader active in many groups and charities. He leaves his wife Ethel M. Wallace and daughter Margaret, plus a wide circle of relatives and friends. A largely attended Masonic funeral was held at the United Church with many out of town mourners present.

Richard Kerr longtime Esquesing Township resident dies at home January 8 after a brief illness. Born in Mayfield, Peel County, he was a farmer and Church of England member. Survived by wife Elizabeth Hillock, two daughters Exina and Mrs Lawrence Saibagg Bae, two sons Irwin and Aubrey serving in North Africa, and siblings Robert and Mrs Lydia McKechern. Funeral held Monday afternoon.

The meteorological department notes record weather trends since 1840 with low snowfall this season at about three inches and late migration of wiki-geese in Albert. No rain or significant snow last two weeks and only half an inch for the month framing a week of temperatures from January 11 to 16.
