Freda Baker daughter of Mr and Mrs Robert Baker and Albert Snippe of Brampton tied the knot Friday December 130 with Rev John Van Harmelen performing the ceremony. Joanne Van Harmelen played the organ as the ice blue satin gowned bride stood before white carnations with a mauve center. Witnesses were Clara Baker and Bill Hegi. Reception followed at Snelgrove Community Hall. The couple will live at R R Georgetown.

Mrs Drummond’s Niece Wins Glasgow Art Medal
Joan Coy Drummond, 17, daughter of Mr and Mrs James Drummond of Lanark Scotland, won a bronze medal and a bursary at Glasgow School of Art after entering a painting competition with 5000 entrants. Her winning piece depicted two policemen arresting an inebriate and is displayed in the Lanark police muster room.

George Rae Somerville 64 a longtime Acton area farmer died December 30 in Guelph General Hospital. He served on the Esquesing Planning Board and Ontario Milk Producers Association and worshipped at Knox Presbyterian Church. Survived by his wife Olla, children Fyfe Bill Margaret Joan Helen and five grandchildren, his funeral was held January 2 at Rumley Funeral Home Acton with interment in Fairview Cemetery Acton.

Mrs John Brown aged 65 died Friday January 4 after a long illness in St Michael's Hospital Toronto. Born in England she came to Canada and Georgetown 33 years ago and lived at 10 Draper Street. She was a Canadian Legion Women's Auxiliary member and is survived by three daughters and two brothers. Georgetown Firemen Battle Two Major Acton Blazes
Georgetown fire crews were sent to Acton for two big fires over the New Year weekend. On Saturday December 29 a barn housing cows and pigs burned at the E Jennings property near town limits, as Acton's truck broke down. The following night the Barr Building on Mill Street burned, leaving three families homeless and gutting three shops including an insurance office a shoe repair shop and a home maintenance business.
