The Georgetown Intermediates defeated Brampton to claim the group title after two tight games. Walter Richardson led the charge with four goals across the series, backed by strong defense from Hoare’s net and Hall and Dewhurst on the blue line as Georgetown advances to the OHA playdowns.
Mrs. H. E. Humberstone and family express gratitude to the Firemen the Lome Scots and all neighbours and friends who assisted when a fire occurred at their home a week ago.
Mrs Margaret Cole and family express deep gratitude for the kindness shown during the illness and passing of their beloved daughter and sister. They cherish the expressions of sympathy floral tributes and acts of sympathy remembered.
John Jamieson McGill died at his Church Street home on February 14 at age about years. Born in Toronto he lived mostly in Limehouse before moving to Georgetown 18 years ago. He and Amelia Scott celebrated a diamond wedding January 29. Survived by wife two sons and two daughters J A McGill Ottawa E R McGill Georgetown Mrs J F Downing London and Mrs R Polkinghorne Coldwater. Funeral held at Knox Presbyterian Church with Rev D D Davidson. interment in Limehouse cemetery.
Norma Smith Tennant born November 25 1917 in Ptonton and longtime resident of the area died Friday February 16 in Guelph General Hospital wife of Samuel W Tennant mother of Ruby Eleanor aged infant. She was active in St Johns Anglican church A Y P A LOBA Queen Alexandra Lodge and had worked as a hairdresser in Kingston Brampton. Survived by husband infant daughter father C E Smith and grandparents J H Smith Stewtartown and W A Scott Brampton. Funeral from J H Smith home to St Johns Church conducted by Rev W G Brook with LOBA assistance.
Fans from near and far packed Bolton to watch Georgetown defeat Brampton 4 goals to 2. Goalie Reg Hoare starred as Dewhurst Baker George and Hall anchored a stout Brampton defense, while Smokey Ken and Walter Richardson led Georgetown with decisive passes and scoring chances. The win secures Georgetown’s group title with Ritchie and the coach elated as celebrating fans sang the victors’ song.

Mrs. Joseph Martin of Caledon Township died at her daughter Mrs. John T. Armstrong home on Sunday February 19 after a period of poor health. A daughter of the late William and Margaret Sanderson of Erin she would have been 74 in June. She leaves husband three sons and two daughters John Clinton Hazel Caledon Fred Bracebridge and Mrs Johan T Armstrong Georgetown. Funeral Tuesday afternoon at Caledon United Church with Rev Bentum officiating and interment at Caledon East Cemetery. Pallbearers listed as John Kirk Melvin Johnston Cecil Dodds Melvin McCartney Clarence Armstrong and Ed Stinson. Many floral tributes reported.
Orangeville’s oldest active businessman George Beswick died at home on Friday in his 87th year. Born in Erin Township Peel County he came to Orangeville, co owning a furniture store, later running it solo for 35 years. He had a twin brother Ebenezer Beswick of Acton who died two weeks ago. He belonged to the United Church and enjoyed bowling with the local club. there are no survivors.
A letter from Wm Hardy in Miami recounts an unusually cold winter in Florida. He notes scorched palm fronds, brown shrubs, and widespread crop damage including potatoes tomatoes and beans. He mentions aerial spraying with five airplanes costing 125 dollars for thirty minutes and describes dead fish and swallows, tarpon scales, and Indians transporting fish in a half ton truck.
The Local Council of Women held an afternoon tea at Mrs. R Paul’s home on February 19. Miss Oliver from Cedarvale School spoke about her twelve years at Georgeont guiding girls, delivering an inspiring account of her work. Hostesses Mrs. Nodwell and Miss Hetti¢é Lawson served a dainty lunch.
In gratitude for the many kindnesses and sympathy shown during our recent sorrow in the death of our beloved wife and daughter, Mrs S W Tennant. We extend heartfelt appreciation from her husband, father, and grandparents to our friends and neighbors for support.
Friends report that Rev Ross K Cameron and Mrs Cameron may return to the east in April. Cameron, formerly of Georgetown, has been minister in Edmonton for two years and recently received a unanimous call from Dovercourt Road Church Toronto. Pulpit approval by Toronto Presbytery is expected March 3 with induction likely in early April.
A attic fire at the home of Mrs. H Humberstone in Brampton Georgetown Thursday night spread from the attic to the roof before volunteers could respond. The roof collapsed, delaying efforts as Lome Scots Regiment helped move furniture to the front lawn and back. Hydrant freezing claims denied.
A Georgetown meeting attendee Le Roy Dale suffered multiple injuries when his car rear ended a truck on No 7 Highway between Acton and Georgetown. He is at Peel Memorial Hospital Brampton. Miss Mary Cummins is in critical condition at St Joseph's Hospital Guelph along with Ethel Doyle and Bernice Hughes, all Georgetown residents. Constable Harrop investigated with Traffic officer Mason.
The Georgetown High School Board held its annual meeting Monday February 19 1940 chaired by C B Dayfoot with all members present. New two year chairman R B Poulis was elected and committees were appointed including Supply and Property. Regular meetings will be on the second Monday each month and minutes and accounts were approved.
Georgetown Silver Streaks beat Milan Bricklayers 4 3 in a playoff opener. Beaumont Schertzel and Louth scored with Adams and Goxe adding for Georgetown as the third period decided the outcome. The two teams meet again tomorrow in what promises to be a wide open, exciting hockey game.
