Peete Zover attended a Strathmere chapter dance in Cooksville sponsored by the Strathmere chapter of IODE. Guests included numerous Brampton Milton Toronto and Hamilton residents with winners named for spot dance and elimina um. committee members and hosts listed among the well attended event.
The Esquel ing Council heard 1950 fox claims totaling 245 paid by the county by law with 5.00 per fox. Eleven shot by Melvin Sheppard Acton and seven by C W Swackhamer Acton. other payments listed to local residents. Sheep claims of 115 paid for two sheep and three lambs killed by dogs. Road work to tender 10 000 yards of gravel and salary by law for road superintendent. Road superintendent to attend Good Roads convention in Toronto.
Former Georgetown resident Mrs Alexander Livingstone died in Toronto at age 93. She lay in state at her daughter Mrs Hugh Davidson’s home at 43 Ridley Boulevard before funeral services held Saturday in Toronto. Interment followed at Acton Cemetery with informant details provided.
A Fort Erie resident Mrs W F Willson, once confined to Guelph General Hospital for a serious illness, died after an illness that began before Christmas. Details read as an obituary note from the era.
Mrs Charles Hoare dies at Peel Hospital after weeks of illness. She was born Ida May Kelly in Campbellford in 1891 and moved to Georgetown after marriage to Charles Hoare. Survived by her husband, ten children, a large Kelly family, thirteen grandchildren, and seven sisters with funeral at Greenwood Cemetery Georgetown. Pallbearers named Forrest Morey Jack Watson George Stigger Thomas Treanor Norman Hill Harry Marchington.
Businessmen lead the league with 16 points after a 5-3 win over Meadow Glen Growers. Smith and Stone power a second-place run as Alliance beat Meadowgl en 8-3. Provincials upset Norval 6-4 with Lyons scoring thr ee goals and Lailaw adding two assists.
Orion Lodge announces a busy period with a district banquet in March at the local hall to honor the Grand Master. Maple Leaf Lodge of Orangeville will visit next Monday to confer the 1st Degree. A public euchre night is scheduled this Friday.
In Toronto a memorial service was held last Thursday for Miss Florence M. Ellison of Georgetown. Nell M. Ellison announced the funeral took place on Bay with alumni and college members paying respects at the Women’s College event.
A Milton meeting discussed progress in education at Mitchell House noting not all members attended. The Georgetown Retailers Association cited student patronage with valentines exchanged at the school and candy boxes for teachers. Hockey plans included Milton Public School versus GPS, Elmira results, and upcoming films for pupils including Hockey Carnival and Winter on the Farm.
Mrs Jim Clarke and son Jimmy of New Toronto spent the weekend in town with her parents Mr and Mrs H Hurley. Mr and Mrs N Prince of Fallingbrook and Mr and Mrs George Camplin of Cooksville were overnight guests. Harold Hancox attended the IODE dance. Ruth and Bul Hancox visited Cooksville with the Camplins. Glennwright Hillock marked his seventh birthday with a party for friends including Karen Shortill Gail and Jimmy McNiven Patsy Irene Bouskill Sharon Parmeter and others. Jill Kentner celebrated her eighth birthday with a Main Street party for friends including Sherron Bradbury Carolyn Biehn Gail Brassley Judy Bonathan Beverley Clark Joanne Duncan and others.
The St John Ambulance local branch joins a national drive aiming for 270000. Campaign runs through February led by Mrs Thomas Grieve and Mrs William Hill with Fred Mann of the Bank of Commerce as treasurer. Donations to listed campaign chairs.

Mrs Wallace T Thompson was elected Regent of the Countess of Strathmore Chapter IODE at the annual Founders Day meeting held at Mrs Art Scott's home. New officers include Regent Mrs Wallace Thompson first vice Miss Jean Mackenzie and secretary Miss Hilda Erwin Tredsyker. Donations were made to St John Ambulance and Halton Music Festival. child health clinics served 335 children.
Auctioneer Frank Petch oversaw a sale by E B Tyers last Wednesday that liquidated his entire farm stock including a herd of registered Holstein cattle. Tyers bought Cedarvale Farm after selling Georgetown Dairy to Riley Brethour, who later sold to Irwin Noble. He plans to dispose of remaining property while keeping the new house built last year.
Two evenly matched junior teams tied 3-3 in Acton as Georgetown and Acton opened a three game playoff. Kentner leveled the score for Acton after Georgetown led 3-2, with Pic Dillon strong in goal and Haxter Inglis and Hepburn standout for Georgetown. Georgetown hosts Acton for game two Thursday night.
Mrs Jessie Martin of Newmarket, a Millport native and mother of Georgetown resident Robert and Jim Martin, died last Friday. Survived by husband and daughter Mrs Molly Inglis of Edinburgh. Funeral in Newmarket Monday. remains cremated at Toronto Crematorium. Husband plans to travel to Scotland in spring to inter ashes.
The Re tail Merchants Association held its monthly meeting last Wednesday after dinner at Hunter's Inn. A constitution was adopted and ongoing talk about waste containers on Main Street continued. The executive committee was tasked with the next steps, including possible contact with the Department of Highways.
