The Georgetown Board of Trade met in the Municipal Building last Thursday. President A R Speight presided. minutes were read by Secretary W E Nodwell. They dropped the town survey idea for now and will push ahead with the Town Booklet layout funded by 150 and 500 for printing. A $50 grant supported Esquesing Agricultural Society. An Old Boys and Girls reunion for the centennial fair was proposed. Lawrence McClintock named assistant secretary. A room in the Municipal Building was set aside to store incoming literature. A meeting on February 7 will discuss education and memorials with local officials.

Delmar Shortill Mourned After Short Illness
James Delmar Shortill died at Guelph General Hospital on January 29 after a brief scarlet fever illness. Born in Erin ten years ago, he was the son of Pred Shortill and the late Ina Lindsay, lived with his grandmother for a time, and attended Coningsby School and Erin United Church. Funeral services were held February 1 at the home of his aunt and uncle in Esquesing with Rev. T. J. Rees and Rev. A. W. Foreman officiating. Balhamad Cemetery burial. Pallbearers included George Taylor and Gordon Price.

George Fraser of Georgetown Dies in Manitoba
George Stirratt Fraser a Georgetown native died at his home in Hamiota Manitoba on January 18 in his 83rd year. He was born on Town Line farm, married Adam McKane in 1898, moved to Manitoba in 1900, and retired to Hamiota in 1928. He helped form the United Church of Canada and served as Sunday School superintendent, teacher, and elder. Burial was at Hamiota Cemetery. Surviving are his wife, five daughters, five grandchildren, and three brothers.

CSM Harry Smethurst of the Lincoln and Welland Regiment arrived home on the Le de France last week to a welcome in St. Catharines. His mother Mrs A J Smethurst of Limehouse and wife Helen McGowan joined the reception. Smethurst enlisted April 1942 with the Queens York Rangers and worked in Sudbury before service.

Sgt Reg Hoare arrives home from three and a half years in the army with wife May Waterhouse and three month old Johnny. He served in Niagara Camp Borden France Belgium Holland and Germany with the Lincoln and Welland Regiment. Son of Mr and Mrs Charles Hoare, he worked at Provincial Paper Lower Mill. Symn Gordon W. Allen of Rockwood and Glen Williams arrives home Monday January 28 after nearly three decades overseas. He served in France Belgium Holland and Germany after enlisting in 1940 and going overseas in 1942. His brother Francis came home last June after naval service and discharge.

Pte Jim Presswood of Glenn, son of Mr and Mrs Harry Presswood, returned last week with the Lincoln and Welland Regiment after serving in Europe. Enlisted January 1943, he trained at Simcoe Camp Borden Devert and Windsor NC, and went overseas with RCAMO in June 1943. He was with the Lincoln and Welland in Germany and before enlistment worked at Martin Estate Glen.

The Esquesing Township Council met in February with Ree.e G W Murray presiding and deputy reeve George Cleave and councillors present. A motion to introduce a bylaw to rescind bylaw 986 was carried 3 2. clerk to prepare the termination bylaw for Exqusing Township Superintendent W C Cunningham.
