Council approves tax exemptions for farm land under urban limits and considers utility hookups. A petition from Main and George Street residents urges police action on sidewalk and road parking nuisances, prompting discussion on park area parking and enforcement.
The wedding of Lorraine Wright and Robert John Ecclestone took place Friday evening at St Pauls Church of England in Toronto. Rev Edward Morley officiated with organist R D Sine and soloist Miss Mary McAuley. The couple and wedding party wore velvet gowns and carried Colonial bouquets, followed by a Prince Arthur House reception and a honeymoon in Washington.
Mrs. Jack Polly and daughter Susan Kathleen arrived in Georgetown last Friday to join Mrs Polly who is manager of the Roxy Theatre. They crossed from England on the Aquitania. Mr Polly comes from Christchurch near Bournemouth and met his wife while he served with the RCAF overseas.
Dr and Mrs Yoxinald T. Paul announce the engagement of their daughter Mary Kathleen to Robert Grant Early son of Mr and Mrs L Arnott Early. The marriage will be held Saturday February 21 1948 at 3 30 pm at Knox Presbyterian Church Georgetown.
Cecil Dobie, longtime Capadian Bank of Commerce employee and former Milton acting manager, has been appointed manager of the Milton branch succeeding the late R E McAndless. A native of Wingham district, Dobie has banking experience across Tillsonburg, Woodstock, Kitchener, Waterloo, and Georgetown and will relocate with his wife and two children as they seek a Milton home.
The Esqueling Council reappointed Reeve George Cleave and Gr. Craig Reid as representatives for 1948 on the Norval Recreation Centre Board of Managers. It named game wardens for 1948 including Daniel Allan Alfred Brig den Ray Crichton and others, passed accounts for roads and garage hall, instructed the tax roll return by Feb 28, and used a by law to provide for 1948 road expenditures.
Norval’s Joe Schortzl a 24 year old 6 foot 11 inch 200 pound right defenseman for Hlorshey Bears. He played 61 games in 1946-46 Eisstern Amateur Hockey League season with 13 goals 12 assists 26 points and added four playoff points. Previously 37 games with 7 goals 14 assists 21 points. Early hockey came in Halton bush league Norval Georgetown Combines and Milton Junior C. Married to Mary Smith Georgetown.

John Bird was unanimously chosen president of the Esquesing Agricultural Society for 1948 at the annual fall fair meeting in Georgetown. Craig Reid retired after five years as president. The meeting approved officers and directors, noted a healthy financial balance, and announced plans for the 1948 fair set for September 17-18.
Georgetown challenged Orangeville in a tight junior hockey game with a nine game win streak on the line. Bradbury led Georgetown with two goals as the teams traded chances until a late overtime winner by Murdock secured a 3-2 victory for the champions.
Mrs. Charles Burnside a Georgetown resident for decades died at her Sudbury home on Friday January 0. Born in Ste Amiette Quebec she moved to Georgetown after marriage and later lived in Collingwood and Sudbury. She leaves son Claude two grandchildren and a Toronto niece. Funeral at Holy Cross Georgetown interment Greenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers listed.
The regular St Georges Club meeting on Tuesday January 20 featured Vice President Mrs Cecil Davidson presiding. Members toured Alliance Paper Mills with Night Superintendent Tom Eason guiding through coating rooms calenders and final sorting. Appreciation was extended to Mr Eason and Alliance Paper Mills. lunch followed with informal golf talk among participants.

Georgetown Papermakers defeat Oakville Legion 9 0 to extend their season long win streak. Key scorers include M Bradbury L Bradbury and Birtwistle while Oakville suffers a tough third period run. Kent Storey leaves game with jaw injury as girls pipe band leads Georgetown to victory.
Mrs William Wesley Cook a former Georgetown resident died January 23 in Sudbury. Despatcher with the Canadian National Railways, she lived in Caprool and Toronto before settling in Beeton area. Survived by daughter, three sisters, grandson Billy McLeod, granddaughter Dole McLeod, burial at the Church of the Epiphany following services at St Pauls Anglican.
