Fire kills man in Main Street triplex blaze
Gerald J. Kreikiel, 37, of 42 Main St South, died from asphyxiation in a Christmas day fire in a Georgetown triplex above a Main Street shopping area. Firefighters battled smoke and a failed rescue attempt as the blaze, likely started by a cigarette, gutted a bedroom and caused about 2000 in damage. Fire Chief Bob Banfield was briefly overcome. Ezekiel, a Belle Island native, left behind three brothers and three sisters. The steel owner is W J Harvey of Toronto.
