A E Nicktin returned Monday from a four month business trip in Alberta and Saskatchewan. David Henderson’s ardent friend David Kenney of Mifton paid his respects, having lived in Acton as a child before moving to Mifton thirty eight years ago. Mr and J A Thompson of Georgeto visited Sunday with Mr and Mrs E Arnold. Reever of Acton and Reever Billmer of Oakville spent time socializing on the street, while candidates for the Wardenship or Free Press were discussed on Bath Street.
A new stamp tax imposed by the Dominion Government at Parliament’s institution takes effect at the start of the New Year. It applies to receipts acknowledging payment of sums ten dollars and up. The tax is graduated, with two cent stamps affixed to each document regardless of amount involved.
The December sittings opened before Judge Biliot with one criminal case involving Dino and Frankland for alleged unlawful killing of Thomas Bullock on the Toronto Hamilton highway in Nelson. The judge ruled lack of jurisdiction and traversed the case to the next assizes. both defendants released on bail. A civil case followed where Maurice Michnick sued Bert Featherstone for $275 balance on fifteen cases of whiskey, claiming an advance from Montreal before a temperance act change. The jury found for Featherstone.

At a Gouelph Chamber of Commerce luncheon Ontario Minister of Public Highways F. C. Biggs announced the Guelph to Brampton road now under construction will be open to traffic late in fall 1928. Much construction work is finished and travel from Acton to Toronto will be shortened. Also included is an ad for Georgetown Fish & Chip Cafe offering varied seafood with home delivery after 6 and guaranteed freshness.
