Sir and Mrs Herd Harlow of Sured hosted a brief gathering with Able Seaman Charles Harlow of the Royal Navy and Joseph Harlow of Brantford. The reunion brought together Grothem relatives who last met three decades ago in England. Charles Harlow, a veteran of two wars aboard the Warspite, has served worldwide and earned numerous medals for valor. He left Georgetown for New York City to rejoin his ship after visiting.

Countess of Strathmore Chapter Holds Monthly Meeting
The Countess of Strathmore Chapter met at the home of Honorary Regent Mrs W G O Thompson last Monday evening. Reports highlighted include War Service Convenor R P Barter on the Marathon Bridge fundraiser netting 108.15 for War Service funds and Mrs Arthur Beaumont on a Christmas clothing shipment to the adopted school in Haliburton. Seventy items were sent, including 17 for babies and children. Mrs Graham Parnell was named treasurer to replace Mrs J R Barber. A fund-raising plan aimed to bolster the General Punch before Christmas, with each member asked to contribute about 50 cents or more, deposited with Mrs Walter Diehn at the Herald Office. Hostesses were Mrs J D Kelly, Mrs Graham Pamed, and Mrs Walter Diehn who served refreshments after the meeting.

A blaze last Saturday morning on the farm of John J. Thompson in Georgetown destroyed the driving house, hen house, and orange on the farm. A tractor fire started the flames. many valuable implements were lost. Thompson saved his car and chickens as firefighters were not summoned to avoid an unstoppable blaze.

The Navy League of Canada Georgetown branch held its annual meeting at the Public Library on December 9. Clarence Dainwee was elected chairman. officers include W. F. Bradley honorary chairman, David Brill vice-chairman, Mrs. A. A. Schrag secretary, E. V. MacCormack treasurer, and Mrs. Mendham chairing the Ladies Committee. Reports praised the first year’s work with $1000.50 in receipts and a $549.06 balance. shipments totaled 504 knitted wool articles and other items. The Ladies Committee, led by Mrs Mendham, organized extensive charity work in Geometoun and district.
