Delrex company to begin building a 360000 square foot factory on 43 acres in Deltex Industrial area early next year. Town to relocate water and sewer lines and extend a railway crossing as company aims to start before frost. Formal announcement awaits.
The 34th Santa Claus parade will begin at 1 30 from Delrex Market Centre to Downtown Georgetown. Santa will ride at the end of a long procession with twenty two bands and many groups including the Lions, Pipe bands, cheerleaders, and riders. The event relies on voluntary entries and is filmed for a special Lions night. Proceeds come from turkey texts and one dollar bills as donations.
The 1966 Ce Georgetown municipal race saw tight margins and calls for a recount. Joseph Gibbons won a third straight mayoral term by a slim majority over John Ilott. Deputy race winner Jim Emmerson asked for a recount after finishing narrowly behind Jim Young. Hunter claimed a clear win for reeve over Malcolm Freeman. Ward results favored Evans, Bailth, and Speight with large margins. Several school board seats filled, others left to incumbents or retirees.
Councillor Powers questions who wrote letters to the Municipal Board protesting the water tower. Mayor Gibbons and Mr Felers voiced opposition to the structure. The council approved hiring the town solicitor to represent the town at the December 2 OMB hearing, with the mayor voting against.
The council boosted pay for election workers from 12.R.0.8 to 30 and poll clerks from 15 to 17 with the polling station rental staying at 14. Councillor Francis noted municipal elections require more effort due to higher ballot counts. The two dollar raise was approved unanimously and set for mid-December. The firm expects an annual payroll of about 1.5 million dollars.
In Esquesing Council elections two newcomers Pat Patterson and Tom Hill won seats. Veteran George Currie returns as third member. Walter Linham served seventeen years on council and reeve. Patterson is a hockey official and EA veteran. Currie seeks forty years on council amid long tenure dynamics. Ballots total 817 voters, 19.5 percent turnout. School board has three vacancies prompting a December 16 nomination meeting and potential election next Thursday. Robert Lawson and Shirley Armstrong did not seek re-election.
