Georgetown news reports acclaim for Harold Cleave and K R MacDonald for mayor and reeve. Council discusses arena finances, hydro rate cuts, and county services as Mayor Gibbons withdraws after 13 years in office.
Mr. Cleave received an acclamation as Mayor of Georgetown for the year 1946. He has long served as Reeve and Councillor and has previously been Warden of the County.
Dr. Stuart Magwood and Miss Margaret Adams wed at St George's Church of England in Georgetown. Archdeacon Thompson officiated as the couple, both from Ontario, exchanged vows with bridesmaid Mrs. Morris Maywood and groom’s fellow graduate Dr. Morton Walker in attendance. After the ceremony the party traveled to Hanover for a reception before a short westward honeymoon and planned residence in Georgetown.
James Young the only son of the late James and Agnes Young of Erin Township died at Toronto General Hospital on November 27 1943. He leaves three sisters two nephews and a naval relative. The funeral was held from Ballinafad with a later service at Hallinafad United Church conducted by Rev Foreman and Rev McKenne. Interment in Erin Cemetery.
Se. George's Church of England celebrated its ninety first anniversary with morning and evening services. Morning special preacher was Rev. Bilton and evening preacher was Archdeacon Thompson. The choir performed specific music for the occasion.
The JODE Bridge Tournament ends after eight weeks at members homes under convenor Mr R F Barber. Prize money total $1750 awarded for first through third places, with Graham Parrnell and T Param taking first prize with 66466 points, Campbell Gincialr and Jim Kennedy third with 56870 points, and Mrs Orr and Langdon earning the high night score prize.
The Bible Society of Orormetoen held its annual meeting after church in G. George's Sunday School room. Officers from last year were re elected with J D Godfrey as Chairman and P R Watson as Secretary Treasurer. Each church to send two representatives. Rev RD Todd spoke on the Dik. Bible Sunday follows next Sunday.

James A Davidson, longtime Georgetown resident, died visiting his daughter in Toronto. Born in Ontario, he was a St George's Church of England member. Survived by three brothers, one sister, two daughters Mamie Kirk and Mrs Renny, and a son William. Funeral conducted by Venerable W. GO. O. Thompson.
Bert Piddler of Alliance Paper Mills Ltd has joined the RCAP and is stationed at Lachine Quebec as a Stationary Engineer. James P Ruddell received pilot wings at No SF TS Drantford on November 4. Ronald Latimer enlisted recently and works for Aren desgien Growers. Private George Latimer serves in Italy. Pte Malcolm Bradford is hospitalized at Camp Borden with pneumonia. George Bradford trains as Wireless Air Gunner at Manning Depot Toronto and was home for the weekend.
Pte Harvey Allen arrived home unexpectedly last Saturday after thirty two months overseas. His wife Beaale Fallowfield and four year old Barbara greeted him along with his father Thomas Allen. He had been hospitalised in England recently and learns of the reunion by a long distance call from Toronto. He will take 14 days leave before reporting back to barracks.
The M. O. H. presents figures for the month listing 44 cases of chicken pox and 18 cases of scarlet fever as part of the contagious disease report.
Roberick Stuart Kennedy editor of the Family Herald and Weekly Star travels through the United Kingdom to write two to three months of exclusive articles on Canadian product distribution British farming progress and soldiers lives. The first piece At Sea will appear December 1 and cover the trans Atlantic convoy crossing. Special Christmas rates promote subscribing to the national farm journal.
The Georgetown High School commencement filled the Gregory Theatre with a capacity audience. The event featured Archdeacon GO cellert leading choral numbers, students performing Two Brothers, and valedictory by Mildred Eason. Diplomas and scholarships were presented by the school board and Principal Carpenter, with prizes awarded to multiple Form levels.
