Closer economic ties among English speaking nations discussed amid U S Canada agitation over the Anglo American pact. Ottawa hosts Lord Stanley visit and Toronto exhibition as Canada weighs wheat export subsidies and possible government action.
A Georgetown meeting at the Public Library formed the Georgetown Business Men’s Association with 54 members. Officers named are President Wm. H. Long, 1st VP N. H. Brown, 2nd VP E. V. MacCormack, Secretary Garfield McGilvray, and Treasurer R. H. Thompson. The next meeting is September 13.
One of the oldest Jewish residents of the Dominion died last Friday night at Mount Sinai Hospital Toronto in his 106th year. Mr Brill enjoyed excellent health and was active for his age until he fell at the Jewish Old Folks Home fracturing his hip. Born in Austria he came to Canada in 1902 and became naturalised soon after. He attributed longevity to a blessing from a rabbi. He enjoyed modern life and listening to a radio. Survived by four sons J Brill Toronto D Brill Georgetown B Brill New York City and S Brill Romania. A funeral on Sunday was well attended by Toronto Jewry.
Milton defeated Oakville 12 to 4 at Milton to seize the Halton County League title after winning the opening game 13 to 11 last Wednesday. Milton advances to the OBA intermediate championship play-downs to face the Toronto Intermediate B group winners in the first round.
President Peter Peddie of the Halton Plowmen announces Esquesing Township will host the annual plowing match on the first Friday in November the 8th line near Hornby. Prize list is being revised and donations are coming in, signaling a record event.

Georgetown hosted the Copper Cliff Midget baseball team over the weekend. The Northernites enjoyed a well planned visit with Lions Club hospitality and a Toronto Baseball Club game at Maple Leaf Stadium. Highlights included a 14-13 victory in the Little World Series and a sightseeing tour to the CBS radio tower, Burlington Beach, and Hamilton. Gordon Alcott led a sustained effort to support youth baseball and midget hockey in Copper Cliff and Georgetown, earning praise for his work.
Ratepayers succeed in obtaining an audit order. The cost of the audit and related details are yet to be determined. Georgetown Pall Pair notes deadlines and financial implications while confirming the mandate.
The Lions Club hosted its first annual garden party at the park last Thursday evening drawing over seven hundred attendees. The show, directed by Affiliated Theatrical Co, featured fourteen acts including dancing, skits, roller skate routines and juggling, with Lorne Scots Band providing music prior to the main event. President Harold C. McClure presided and Mayor Joseph Gibbons praised the club for aiding town residents, as Copper Cliff Midget Baseball Team weaved into the program. Bingo and refreshments filled the intermission while organizers H. O. McClure and others plan another similar event next year.

Copper Cliff Americans edged Georgetown Nationals 14 13 in ten innings to claim the Ontario Midget Pro Championship after trailing by eight runs. Syl Apps umpired portions of the game as fans witnessed a dramatic comeback with key hits from multiple players and a late rally to seal the title. The Park crowd also enjoyed a band program by the Lome Scots Band Georgetown before the championship clash.
Mr. Thos. Hamlyn spent a few days with his sister Mrs. J A s Mrs. Gordon Cunningham visits in Toronto. Leona and Eleanor Smith return home after holidays with cousins in Glen Williams. Rev. W. Brook took charge at St Johns Church last Sunday after summer holidays. School will reopen next Sunday at 10:30 am standard time.
Mrs. A McDonald and Mrs H Porte hosted visits with Marion Russell and Clifford McDonald at Glen Meyer. Henry Porte returned home for the weekend. Mr and Mrs W J McDonald and their Georgetown family spent Sunday with Mrs A McDonald and family.
Mr John Cole of Toronto visited last week at Mr Alex McKay's. Mr and Mrs R N Weir of Toronto were weekend visitors with Mr and Mrs F P Bennie. Mr and Mrs C McEnery, Mrs A Soper and Mr J Soper visited Bun day with cousins Mr and Mrs G Evans in Morriston. Mr and Mrs F W Shortill, Mr and Mrs Alvin Starrit spent Sunday at Mr J Hogarth's near Fer gus. Ideal weather for a field day at Mr R McEnery's under WMLEL auspices. August meeting of WMLEL held at Mrs H Hills home with good attendance.
