New School Opens With Largest Enrolment Ever
Georgetown public schools inaugurate the New Howard Wrigglesworth School east of the Doigh School on Tuesday. The new building will house kindergarten and lower grades with a special class, while the old unnamed school expands to full K-8. A boundary split allocates students to balance enrolment between Wrigglesworth and the old school.

Turzwell to Join Canadian RCAF Squadron in France
Officer Jack Turzwell and his wife, visiting relatives in town, plan to join the Canadian Royal Air Force unit in Mets France this fall. Turzwell, a Queen’s University graduate, completed training as an attachment instructor and served at Trenton and Clinton before posting to Uplands Ontario.

Barber Led Cornwall Papermill as Superintendent and Local Paper Family
Charles Herbert Barber born 1872 Georgetown studied at McGill as chemical engineer and led the Ontario Paper Company mill in Cornwall. He later moved to Toronto with Howard Smith ownership in 1917 and returned to Georgetown in 1934 to join Barker Floral Company with his sons Keith and Robert. He died after a St George's Church service and burial at Greenwood Cemetery. He survived by seven children including John in Canberra and Eric.
