Georgetown District High shows top students with 80 percent threshhold

The record year at Georgetown District High sees cash province awards of 400 to students scoring 80 percent or higher. Simon Llewellyn leads with 84.5 percent, followed by Larry Stef 84.3 and Elizabeth Hay 81.2, with Tan Bowell Georgina Brown and others over 75 percent. Principal Donald Turley notes complete results by subject and honors.

German Students Tour North America On Hitchhike Visit

Three University of Gama students Gundolf Grose Annemaria Leist and Axel Poden stopped at the Somm ers home after a continent wide tour. Annemaria Munich arrived June 29 in New York and has toured four states while the boys travel mostly by thumb hoping to see most of Canada by hitchhiking. They travelled with a $99 bus ticket for European students and faced lodging in parks during a rainstorm while staying with host families through the People to People Travel program.

Westbrook Stars, Giants Blank Merchants in Five and a Half

Westbrook pitched a second one hitter this season as the Giants blanked the Merchants 10 to 0 in a rain delayed Halton County game at Georgetown Park. Earl Burt scored the lone run in the second inning while Bill Campbell added a third inning double. The win lifts the Giants to 11-0 and keeps them in fifth place. they travel to Burlington Sunday and host Oakville Oaks next Wednesday.

Health Unit Nurses Threaten Walk-Out in Halton

Reeve Robert Parker, Halton Board of Health chair, warned County Council of a threatened walk-out by all 26 nurses in the Halton Health Unit effective September 12. He said the unit may not negotiate under threat and noted counties of Stormont Dun a s and Glengarry have joined in the stance. The board is ready to negotiate if the nurses form a certified group, with talks to continue.

Car recovered undamaged in Barrie police find

A Rambler station wagon stolen from 181 Main St. North in Barrie overnight on August 14 was found Monday morning by Barrie Police Department. The car was abandoned near the scene and is in good condition, owner John Emmerson confirms.

Two-County Agreement for $2 Million Detention Centre

Halton and Peel counties sign a joint pact with the Provincial government to build a $2,000,000 regional detention centre replacing their century old jails. Warden Herby Hinton and Warden Jack Graham join Minister Allan Grossman in pledging a two-building facility with limited maximum-security housing and work for inmates. John Edgar Named Manager of Halton and Peel Trust Co

John Edgar will become Georgetown manager of Halton and Peel Trust and Savings Co after serving as assistant manager in Brampton. The firm opens its first local office September 23 in a temporary Mill Street location, with extensive remodeling of the former Christian Reformed Church on Main Street. A Brampton native, Edgar previously worked at Toronto-Dominion Bank locations in Mount Forest, Guelph, and Toronto. He and wife Mary report a young family and a small stock of gadgets? cigarettes discovered during a past check.

Charge Withdrawn In Open Air Picnic Beer Case

Magistrate Kenneth Langdon withdrew a charge after the accused pleaded guilty to liquor on a picnic table at a Halton conservation area on July 3. The man argued he misunderstood the law citing beer at roadside tents, clarified that tents count as temporary residence, and the charge was dismissed.

First Year Results Earn U of W Tuition Award

Keith Allen son of Mr and Mrs Robert E Allen of 47 King Street East completed his first year in Science at the University of Waterloo and earned a U of W tuition scholarship. He previously received an Ontario Scholarship after graduating Georgetown District High School last year.
