Bill Schenk, Pte. Jim Williams, and others. It covers their overseas service since 1941, units served with, ships arrived on, marriages, and reunions with families. Local receptions and homecoming dinners are noted, with families and neighbors present.
Melen Williams daughter of Dr and Mrs Williams wed Lieut Gordon Boody son of Mr Boody of Sarnia at St George's Church of England on Friday August 3 at 7 30 pm officiated by Ven W G O Thompson. Attendants included Miss Peggy Oastrick and Miss Beatrice Brill. Ushers were Capt Robert McCabe Lieut Lloyd Rutledge and David Williams. The couple then hosted a reception and plan a honeymoon in Northern Ontario before settling in Toronto.
A note of gratitude from Signalman Jim McNiven praising the Soldiers Comforts choir event at Georgetown and Knox Church and the kindness of friends in sending cigarettes and parcels during overseas service. He extends thanks to Huttonville, Silver's Dept. Store, and local supporters.
Sarah Ann McCulloch widow of James Lyons Brampton’s oldest resident died at home in her 97th year. She was mother to Georgetown councillor Thomas L Lyons and nine other children. She farmed near Cheltenham before moving to Brampton thirty eight years ago. Funeral held Monday at Grace Church with four grandsons and two nephews as pallbearers. Georgetown Fair approaches in three weeks with prize lists urged.
Esquesing Township Council approved a 100 donation to The Sick Children's Hospital Building Fund at a meeting whose agenda included routine accounts and by-law readings. Officials adjourned to meet again September 4 or at the Reeve's call.
Georgetown observers mark Japan's surrender with a Civic holiday parade in the town core. Lorne Scots Band and Girls Pipe Band led a procession from the Legion Hall past veterans and council groups. A drumhead service, powwow style ball game, and fireworks capped the day, Harvey Fisher’s Orchestra providing street-dance music on Main Street.
Joseph T. Donaldson, an 82 year old Georgetown resident born in Port Dover and long associated with Galt, died suddenly at 1:30 am on Saturday August 4. He lived in Georgetown with daughter Mrs J P Reid since 1939. Funeral held August 7 at Knox Church Galt with interment at Mount View Cemetery. Surviving: daughter Mrs J P Reid, Georgetown. son D Roy Donaldson, London. three grandchildren.
Frank Kentner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Vance E Kentner, has returned to town and taken a position at MacCormack's Drug Store. He trained at Robb's Drug Store, Ontario College of Pharmacy, and graduated in 1940. He previously worked in Dryden and Toronto. His wife Gladys Beaver of Creagentown and their four year old daughter Gillanne join his parents on Emery Street.
The weather man kept busy, transplanting 40 new iris varieties into a 160-variety collection. Two showers blessed the start of the week, and strong sales are anticipated as we offer bargain prices to eager buyers.
Honourably discharged after two and a half years in the Canadian Navy, Chief ER Jack Tost and his wife visit his mother in town. He served in Newfoundland and Nova Scotia.
