Georgetown council faced criticism over a 175 acre industrial land release to Delrex Developments linked to a 3 000 per acre land purchase for public and separate school sites. Reeve Elliott urged renegotiation and cost estimates for paving water and sewer from Sth Line, warning projected expenses near one million dollars if development stalls.
Sul protesting a highway plan that would take much of his land and place an access road from Maple Ave near his home. Arthur Armstrong spoke Monday recounting that the plan would taper to two lanes at Maple if it fails, noting Sunoco Station nearby and school zone traffic. He denied the Maple crossing would improve safety, citing a highway official saying faster traffic could cause more accidents. Mayor Gibbons said the intersection change is still under consideration.

Grant Portch, 21, swim instructor at Camp Norval in Georgetown, collapsed in the pool during a race. He was pulled from the water, revived briefly with artificial respiration and external heart massage, but died at Georgetown Hospital. An inquest is set for August 12 at Stewarttown Hall. Portch, a former Ontario record holder in backstroke, had served as a YMCA camp counselor and was described as a standout athlete.

The Georgetown Sales Arena shipped the largest cattle lot ever, 300 top Norsteins from Ontario, on 16 railroad cars to Montreal, then by ship to Genoa and Milan. Some cattle came from Georgetown area farms as buyers assembled the herd for the Italian purchase.
Prince Charles Drive resident B Robertson told council brutal early morning noise from hot rods disturbs sleep. He said mufflers are often illegal and police reporting is ineffective. Mayor Gibbons and others discussed police coverage and potential anti noise by laws while awaiting a police committee report.
