Roger Thomas Mudie 17 drowned while swimming with a younger boy near Norval outskirts of Paris. Rescuers found him in 20 feet of water after four hours. his body taken to Georgetown. He attended St. John's United Church and worked at Williams Shoe Co Brampton. Survived by parents Mr and Mrs James Mudie and six siblings. funeral planned in Georgetown.

A stubborn grass fire requiring Acton and Georgetown fire departments burned about 25 acres of pasture on Ray Coulter's farm in Pyslinch Township near the Halton border. Fire Chief William Hyde led Esquesing area units. the blaze was checked by a hardwood bush with only slight tree damage. No residents or buildings were at risk. The forest ranger assisted, and dry conditions suggest the fire may burn underground for days.
