Local council weighing a five hundred dollar grant for youth hockey teams Peewee and Midget Georgetown. A spectator suggested reallocation from a larger grant, but mayor cautioned against altering a citizen plebiscite outcome while Fire Department funds and a planned tournament were discussed.

Ten year old Jimmy Colter won first prize of $9.00 in the Herald’s Easter Faster colouring contest with 118 entrants aged 13 or younger. Second prize of $3.80 went to Julia Mundie and third prize of $2.00 to Kim Caldes, among others. judges included John Sommer and Solon Charles St.
Dr Archie Bull Halton County Medical Officer of Health reports no flu alarm. He notes common illnesses and references past outbreaks, stating inoculation is used by many practitioners and that the current year focuses on allergy awareness and public health measures.
In Mareky district, two routes exist and mail handling at central offices causes confusion. About 30 people pick up mail at the post office. Officials note extra postage and misrouting when addresses like Debville return mail, urging clearer routing.

The award recognizes her work with French Canadian residents and in promoting bilingual classes at Holy Cross separate school in Ontario. Included at the event were Mr Primeau and a representative of the separate school board with his wife serving as a delegate for Communities of Pedagogy in Toronto.
Harold Llewellyn of Hamilton will be ordained a deacon May 23 and lead services May 30 at Alban's and St. Paul’s in Glen Williams Norval parish. He replaces Rev. Ronald Stubley amid a shift in parish leadership.
The town will begin June reconstruction of Highway No. 7 between Rexway Drive and Maple Avenue. The project adds a four lane widening and a new interchange at Maple Avenue. Work aims to finish in two months with minimal disruption and limited future town-wide rear sections to be done in subsequent years.
Georgetown Fire Department answered its first grass fire alarm of the season Saturday afternoon and extinguished the blaze promptly. The report notes dry weather allowed the grass to burn despite damp conditions.
A Georgetown pilot was among three crew on a jet with fifty one passengers. The aircraft skidded to a halt on its left wing spewing sparks. Firefighters quickly extinguished a left engine fire as the plane stopped at Malton airport. A warning light indicated a jammed jet wheel. crew attempted to shake it free by dropping and pulling up. Damage limited to two propellers and the left wing flap. Passengers remained in their cars during the incident.
Delegation from Branch 120 of the Canadian Legion told Council that the annual May fireworks display cost nearly 600, not 500, prompting a motion for the town to pay half. The Legion cited wire and lumber costs raising their share to about 300 dollars and sought permission to erect a sidewalk fence on Market Street, with both fence and flag pole issues referred to the property committee.
Town leaders clash over a traffic survey funded by a corporation run by engineers led by Gibbons. Mayor Gibbons opposes the 24 000 expenditure, questioning value while deputy Heeve Hunter defends the survey as government required. Reeve Wiiott and others argue the plan serves tracks access and law compliance despite public cost concerns.

Oakville mayor Allan Masson secured the Conservative nomination for the Hilton riding at a large convention held in the Williams Av school auditorium. He defeated opponent Jeeve Coulter on the first ballot and pledged Tory victory, urging 800 delegates to unite from the bottom up while criticizing Liberal tax plans and promising strong local organization ahead of the next federal election.
