Pieta Council Receives Knights of Columbus Charter
The Pieta Council held a banquet at Holy Cross auditorium on April 19 to receive their Knights of Columbus charter. Attended were Knights and ladies, state council guests, Rev. Father Otger Devent, Rev. Father Martin Vandersteen, and officials including Thomas Keating, Harold Baxter, Arthur Frost, Clifford McLellan, Edward O'Donnell, and Martin Carberry. Delbert d'En tremont welcomed guests and presented the charter to Grand Knight William J. Kent, followed by speeches and a charter certificate presentation. The evening ended with dancing to the Modern Aires.

Back Protest Against Bell Rate Increase
Monday night the council decided to back the Canadian Federation of Mayors and Reeves fight against any Bell Telephone rate increase. They approved a $47.4 share of the $30,000 legal costs to be paid by municipalities, based on one third of a cent per capita. Dr. Hyde called it money down the drain as the raise seems likely.

Forty cattle perished in a fire at Falgarbrook Farm north of the Hornby cut-off. Ninety percent of the herd were registered Guernseys, including two Grand Championship bulls and a prize cow.
