Last Thursday in the Oddfellows Hall firemen and ladies entertained the retired fire chief Harry Savings with a salad supper and dance. Mr. and Mrs. Glassford, Mr. and Mrs. McPherson, and Jimmy Valentine played music. A walnut smoker cabinet and pink carnations were presented to Chief Savings and Mrs. Savings in appreciation of his service.

Church Choir Wins Festival Prizes at Davenport
A girls choir from St John's United Church trained by Norman Laird won first prize in its class and received second prize as a junior choir at a festival in Davenport Tor onto last week. The 12 to Y age group showcased strong talent with the girls performing confidently under Laird's guidance.

Missing Canadian Navy lieutenant among seven believed dead in Nova Scotia crash
Lieut. John K H T Mason from Georgetown is among seven presumed killed when two Navy Avengers collided and fell in the Atlantic 79 miles off Shelburne Nova Scotia. Wreckage was found but weekend searches were halted with hope abandoned. Mason, a Ridley College graduate, served with the Canadian Navy in the war and leaves a wife Elizabeth Robinson and three children. His father Col. D H C Mason, a brother Tony and sister Elizabeth survive, while his mother died recently in Toronto.

Rev A F N Bourne, first rector of the Church of the Nativity in Toronto, dies at 90 after a career spanning Bridgetown Barbados to McGill trained ministry. Born 185? in Barbados, came to Canada in 1881, ordained 1887, served in Quebec, Scarboro and Penetanguishene before Toronto post from 1923. Esquesing Reeve Acton Fair Worker Dies in Guelph
G. Wesley Murray former Esquesing Township reeve died in Guelph General Hospital. He served eight years as councillor, three as deputy reeve, two as reeve, and directed the Murray Memorial YMCA project in Acton. Survived by wife Donalda Mann, daughter Velma Millar, granddaughter Freesia Denny, two brothers Edward and Andrew. Laura Murray predeceased him.
