Georgetown Hires Fifth Policeman from Ottawa
Nelson Trafford a Toronto veteran of five years joins Georgetown as its fifth constable. Among 23 applicants he was interviewed Monday night and chosen to fill the $2700 position, expanding the force from four to five. He begins June 1 and serves with Police Chief Roy Haley and constables Billborrow, Found and Inch. Trafford, a former motorcycle traffic officer, is married to Faith Townend and has two children, Naomi and Paul.

Archdeacon H A Leake Dies After Sudden Illness
Archdeacon H. A. Leake rector of Trinity Anglican Church Chippawa died suddenly in hospital at Niagara Falls. He helped officiate at Archdeacon W. G. C. Thompson’s funeral in St Catharines and preached his last sermon before his death. He formerly served at St Barnabas St Catharines and All Saints Hamilton. Born in Grand Valley he studied in Jarvis and Hamilton and graduated from Trinity College.

Tunnel Embankment For New Sewer Line
Armco Drainage Co. undertakes a large tunnelling project behind a shoe factory on John St to connect Swanek subdivision to the sewerage system. Two 12 hour shifts, seven days weekly, bore a 44 inch diameter tunnel about 176 feet long after shoring by Beaver Ready Mixed Co. Three men per shift work, dynamite used to clear large trees and stumps. Progress reported at 3 feet per day with 18 feet tunneled to date.

Esquesing council awards grants to local groups
At the April 2 meeting Esquesing council granted $100 to Norval Juniors hockey and $50 to Norval Juniors drama for county honours this year. The meeting authorized land purchase for road widening and a by law for gas pipes along highways. Delegates were named for urban rural muncipalities and a weed control conference. Esquesing’s March hospital accounts amounted to $247.87.

Halton Co-Operative Enters Oil and Gas Field
Halton Co-operative Supplies plans to enter the oil and gas business next week with a new truck for delivering line fuel oil and related goods. Storage tanks will be placed behind the mill and sales office on Guelph Street and at the Milton depot to serve farm customers with aluminum painted tanks to reduce evaporation.
