Council selects H E Cole as Town Engineer
H E Cole of Woodstock is named town engineer for Georgetown, commencing May first. Among 14 applicants, he was one of three interviewed after five initial candidates withdrew. Cole has worked as project engineer for Central Mortgage and Defence Construction Ltd, with duties at Clinton, Centralia RCAF, Wolseley Barracks, London, and Camp Borden. He is married with three children and trained in civil engineering at the University of Toronto after service in the war.

Funeral Service Held for Harley Vice President Gilmer
Funeral services were held at McClure Funeral Home for Harley Vice President Albert William Gilmer who died of a sudden heart attack. He served as vice president of Harley-Kay-Marsland Ltd and was a former general manager, with ties to Orion Odd Fellows and Knox Presbyterian Church. He leaves a wife Marjorie Gault a brother Fredrick and a sister Ethel. The service included a Masonic tribute and pallbearers from the firm and Kitchener staff.

A social evening for New Canadian ladies is planned in the Legion auditorium on April 26 with hosts from Countess of Strathmore Chapter IODE to welcome newcomers from Britain and the continent. The May 9 annual dinner will be held in St Johns Memorial Hall with Mrs Thomas Beer welcomed as a new member. Fifty young Georgetowners from Knox Presbyterian St John s United and First Baptist gathered at First Baptist Church for a 700 am sunrise service led by Ball Whitney with Barbara Lindsay scripture and Philip Clappison prayer. Rev Alfred Barker preached on the Good Morning message of the Easter morning. Afterward the group went to Knox Church for breakfast with plans to make it an annual event.

Five Grass Fires Occupy Georgetown Firemen
Five grass fires over two days stretched the Georgetown Fire Department thin. On Saturday a dump fire near Mrs Angus McDonald’s property caused one call and Sunday morning saw two alarms near Harold Cleave and James McIlwrath. A Glen Williams blaze was checked behind Harry Logan’s yard on Sunday afternoon and a fifth fire erupted behind Sherman Handy’s on River Drive Monday night.

Easter Services At Glen Anglicans Draw Hundreds
Over 350 members of St. George's and St Alban's Anglican Churches attended six Easter Sunday services in Town Glen. Rev Kenneth Richard son preached on the Resurrection with a victory over death theme. Christian children saw a coloured Easter story picture and a film God’s Wonder Film and received Easter crosses. Baby’s Cries Foil Thieves at Garage Break-In
Monday night thieves shattered a garage window at Bert McMenemy’s residence to reach the lock. They intended to steal a truck but, finding the battery dead, took small items instead. Mrs. McMenemy woke to her crying baby and saw the intruders depart when the light came on.

Brampton Youth Killed In Silvercreek Accident
A fatal crash on No. 7 highway at Silvercreek left Alvin George Miller 18 of Brampton dead after failing to negotiate a curve. Passenger Thomas Shea 16 was treated for shock at Peel Memorial. In a second wreck 400 yards west driver John Kentner 23 of Acton and passengers James Gunn Acton Donald Gunn Windsor were unharmed but the car was wrecked. Police reported both incidents occurred Saturday night and are under investigation.
