Georgetown Council Allocates Grants and Debates Park Building
On Monday April 1 the council approved a $200 grant to the Georgetown Agricultural Society for the fair and met with the Fair Board to decide a site for a new animal building in the park. Debates over building orientation included Harding Price leading a delegation. supporters favored placing the structure on the oval, while Goodlet and Hale preferred preserving the oval. Other measures discussed included drainage at E J Robinson’s property, extending water service to Tyers subdivision, reviewing town insurance, and a by law on garbage collection defeated 4-3. The meeting also covered police hours, a new water line, and appointing a weed inspector.

Martha Foster Shaw formerly of Norval became Martha Foster Shaw after marrying and moved to Toronto where she died after months of illness at Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Born in Bracebridge she lived at Acton and Cheltenham before settling in Toronto and attended Dublin and Woodside schools. Survived by one son Ernest and eight siblings, she was predeceased by her husband and a brother Roy. Funeral was in Park Lawn Cemetery with pallbearers Gordon Sharpe Russell Gray Charles Flint Allan McCullough George Burt and Ed Lucy.

The Georgetown Anglers and Hunters offer $5 shares to finance a clubhouse to be built on land acquired last year beside Ballantine property. A meeting at Oddfellows Hall reviewed plans and screened Weath of the Nation film by Abitibi Paper Co and the Dept of Lands and Forests. A benefit draw for Chuck Davies injured in a shooting raised $175. Herb Harlow Jr won a suit of clothes from Silvers.
